We're looking to add an Engineering Manager/ Senior Manager, Photonics in Bayan Lepas,Penang.

About the role:

This role is a Engineering Manager/ Senior Manager position in Photonics Manufacturing, responsible for leading technical, manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to ensure successful product launches, high manufacturing performance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement across the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and internal teams on photonics manufacturing, product performance, reliability, test, and technical issues.

  • Lead new product introduction, process/product qualification, production transfer, and engineering projects, ensuring quality, cost, delivery, capacity, and project objectives are achieved.

  • Provide engineering leadership for day-to-day manufacturing operations, resolving technical issues and ensuring delivery, quality, yield, and operational targets are met.

  • Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement across process capability, yield, test performance, reliability, scrap, and product quality using DOE, FMEA, statistical analysis, and advanced process controls.

  • Drive cost, productivity, automation, and operational excellence initiatives through process optimization, yield and material utilization improvement, waste reduction, capacity enhancement, and OEE improvement.

  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program teams to ensure product manufacturability, testability, quality, and reliability throughout the product lifecycle, including EOL management.

  • Partner with suppliers to improve process capability, material quality and reliability, supply robustness, and resolution of supplier-related issues.

  • Lead engineering projects covering process development and transfer, equipment qualification, capacity expansion, and process changes, including review and approval of ECOs, deviations, qualifications, and engineering documentation.

  • Ensure engineering activities and documentation comply with ISO, customer, regulatory, quality, safety, and environmental requirements, and provide technical support for customer, supplier, and regulatory audits.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team, setting performance objectives, strengthening technical and problem-solving capabilities, managing performance, and building succession plans.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Photonics, Optical, Electrical/Electronic, Materials, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline. A Master's degree and/or relevant Lean Six Sigma or Quality Engineering certification is an advantage.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience.

  • Photonics manufacturing processes including optical assembly, optoelectronics packaging, fiber optics, laser-based products, precision alignment, active/passive alignment, and optical testing.

  • Semiconductor and advanced manufacturing processes.

  • Yield improvement, process characterization, SPC, DOE, FMEA, Six Sigma, and Lean
  1. Manufacturing methodologies.

  • New Product Introduction (NPI), technology transfer, and manufacturing scale-up.

  • Reliability engineering, failure analysis, and statistical data analysis.
