JOB TITLE: Finance Manager - Malaysia

JOB SUMMARY
BurdaLuxury is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to oversee the finance operations of our two legal entities in Malaysia. Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Finance in Bangkok, with a dotted line to the Managing Director of Singapore & Malaysia, you will lead the local finance team and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
This role is critical in driving efficient financial workflows and ensuring strong collaboration with commercial teams. You will be responsible for implementing and enforcing effective processes around purchase orders, contracts, sales reporting, invoice approval, and payment cycles.
As Finance Manager, you will be expected to lead and develop the Malaysian finance team, delegate effectively, and provide value-added financial insights to support decision-making. This role may expand in scope over time to include broader regional responsibilities, depending on business needs and individual performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the Malaysian finance team (currently 2 accountants), fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and professional growth.
- Ensure appropriate delegation of tasks, while maintaining robust review and control processes.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages to the regional office in Bangkok and to group headquarters in Germany (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, budget, and two reforecasts per year).
- Provide analysis of variances against budget/forecast, highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Liaise closely with the Regional Finance Analyst to support regional and local management with timely, actionable financial insights.
Commercial & Business Partnering
- Partner with sales, events, editorial, and operations teams to ensure financial processes (e.g. purchase orders, contract approvals, revenue recognition, billing, and expense control) are followed efficiently.
- Monitor the sales pipeline and expected revenue outturn, ensuring accurate forecasting and alignment with commercial targets.
Compliance & Statutory Matters
- Manage relationships with external auditors and company secretary to ensure timely and accurate statutory reporting, audits, and compliance with local laws and regulations.
- Oversee all tax matters (corporate, GST/SST, withholding) and liaise with tax authorities.
- Ensure internal controls are robust, documented, and adhered to, in line with group standards.
Treasury & Cash Flow Management
- Manage cash flow forecasting, monitoring, and reporting.
- Ensure prompt invoicing and follow-up on receivables to optimise working capital.
- Maintain banking relationships and oversee bank account operations and approvals.
Process Improvement & Projects
- Drive continuous improvement in financial workflows
- Lead and support implementation of regional and local finance-related projects (e.g. CRM system, ERP enhancements).
Other Duties
- Support ad-hoc regional initiatives and special projects as assigned by the Regional Director of Finance.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA)is highly desirable.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a Finance Manager, Controller, or equivalent leadership role.
- Proven track record of leading small to mid-sized teams.
- Experience working in multinational or regional organisations is a plus.
Technical skills
- Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems and ability to drive ERP/CRM process improvements.
- Strong grasp of local tax and statutory reporting requirements.

- Fluent in English, with excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders.
