About the customer:

Our client is an established international construction and engineering group with operations across Southeast Asia, delivering large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects. The Malaysian subsidiary (around 20+ staff, including an experienced Accountant and part-time Admin) will soon commence a major USD 20M Ground Improvement project for a data centre. The Finance Manager will play a key role in managing the financial and administrative aspects of this project.

Job Summary:

As the Finance Manager you will oversee project-related financial activities, ensuring proper cash management, invoicing, and expense tracking. Acting as the link between project operations and regional management, this role requires a proactive, hands-on finance professional who can operate independently and support the Project Manager in Malaysia. The position is a fixed-term contract (8-10 months).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage cash flow for the Malaysia subsidiary and project site.
  • Ensure timely invoicing of work progress and follow up on cash collection.
  • Track committed expenses (e.g., POs not yet invoiced).
  • Monitor supplier expenses and expedite urgent payments when required.
  • Allocate expenses accurately and follow up on variance vs. budget.
  • Oversee site cash expenses and ensure proper controls are in place.
  • Collaborate with the Accountant, Admin, and Project Manager for reporting.
  • Provide financial updates to the Project Manager and regional Finance lead.

Requirements:

  • 510 years of experience in Finance (minimum 4+ years in a Big Four audit firm or Finance Manager role in an international company).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and project finance.
  • Proven ability to manage cash, invoicing, and supplier payments.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Proactive, hands-on, and able to operate independently in a project environment.
  • Experience in construction, engineering, or project-based businesses preferred.

For this position, the client's budget is between MYR 8,000 12,000 /per month.
