Job Description

Reporting to Finance Director of Asia Pacific, this is a Great China controller role and is responsible for overseeing the finance operations for Great China markets for the company. This role is critical in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and performance, while supporting businesses during growth/turnarounds phases through strong business partnership, high financial acumen and people leadership.

This role has multiple facets and serves in many capacities including planning and forecasting, leading monthly financial close and reporting processes, managing day to day finance operations, ensuring all compliances (audit, taxation, etc.) and applying our global and regional finance strategy. Day to day operations may include credit control, cash flow management, taxation, liaising for insurance, treasury matters, and maintaining a gold-standard level of financial reporting and control environment.

Responsibilities will also include improvement of systems/process and enhancement of internal control systems. As part of a matrixed organization, this role works across other global and functional disciplines in the organization including tax, legal, pricing, operational finance, accounting, general ledger, financial systems and business strategy to facilitate meeting and/or exceeding business plan objectives.

Monthly Closing and Reporting (20%)

  • Liaisoning with central business center teams to ensure the timely and accurate accounting and reporting, inclusive of necessary reconciliations/adjustments during month end.
  • Oversee the preparation, coordination and consolidation of monthly financials and reporting for markets under purview, and its supporting analysis.
  • Manage accurate monthly and quarterly financial forecasting process and its supporting analysis.
  • Communicate the monthly/quarterly/annual financial results to Finance Director and other stakeholders.

Financial Planning & Analysis (20%)

  • Participate and support in the execution of annual strategic priorities and initiatives.
  • Work closely with the local market leadership in developing a well thought out annual and three-year financial plan linked to priorities.
  • Lead the annual planning process inclusive of preparation of deliverables, coordination and consolidation of financial plan for markets under purview.
  • Support AP Finance Director on an ad-hoc basis (projects, FP&A work, analysis, issue resolution)
  • Teach and lead a mentality of fitness and fiscal responsibility (manage OPEX in a strategic way; price projects appropriately)
  • Work closely with the corporate finance team in the central business center on regional projects on needed basis.

Compliances (20%)

  • Ensure compliance with local tax regulations (VAT/GST, Corporate tax, Transfer Pricing Regulations) including monthly/quarterly/annual returns, tax payments and filings.
  • Liaison and support the international tax team on transfer pricing and large complex tax matters. Be their point of contact for all local needs.
  • Strictly observe all corporate accounting policies and maintain tight internal controls.
  • Interface with internal and external auditors and tax consultants for all necessary audits/advisory matters ensuring annual compliances are completely in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Keep track and report compliances to the AP finance Director and Corporate Tax and Accounting teams.

Business Partner support (30%)

  • Responsible for the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen internal controls and drive process and reporting efficiencies.
  • Provide thought leadership to the local business partners and influence them to keep actions in line with strategy, core values and legal and statutory requirements.
  • Support functional and regional business leaders in managing OPEX spending, meeting budgets, timely communication, accuracy of information provided, identification and resolution of issues, and satisfaction of business partners.
  • Proactively take on ad-hoc cross-functional assignments for the business.

Organizational Development & Managing People (10%)

  • Provide direction for employees through setting annual objectives and providing continuous feedback and impact coaching.
  • Support and develop skills of team members.
  • Plan for succession of each position.
  • Manage change both organizationally and strategically.
  • Act as a mentor/coach.
  • Teach and lead a Steelcase culture in line with our core values to the broader local teams, not just Finance.
