About the Company

We are seeking on behalf of our client a Controller / Finance Operations Lead to own and run the company's end-to-end accounting and finance function. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable executing day-to-day accounting work and designing scalable financial processes. You will act as the primary owner of company financials, working closely with the CEO and cross-functional leaders, while managing and developing both onshore and offshore accounting team members. This role blends controller-level ownership with deep operational involvement across AR, AP, close, forecasting, tax support, and systems.

About the Role

This role is focused on overseeing the financial operations and accounting functions of the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance while leading a team of accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations & Accounting Ownership
  • Own end-to-end accounting operations across all US subsidiaries
  • Maintain accuracy across AR, AP, general ledger, revenue recognition, and reconciliations.
  • Oversee invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and cash flow tracking
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end close (within 5 business days)

  • Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Prepare and issue invoices; ensure accuracy of PO details, formats, and customer data.
  • Maintain AR aging, monitor overdue balances, and lead collection efforts
  • Partner with Sales and Operations to validate billing data
  • Provide AR insights to support cash forecasting

  • Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Process vendor bills and payments accurately and on schedule
  • Coordinate international vendor payments
  • Lead 1099 filings for contractors

  • Month-End Close & Reporting
  • Own the month-end close process across all entities
  • Review and approve reconciliations (bank, credit cards, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, deferred revenue)
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and Actual vs Budget variance analysis
  • Present financial insights, risks, and recommendations to leadership

  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management
  • Build and maintain weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecast refreshes
  • Support leadership with forward-looking financial planning

  • Tax & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and US tax requirements
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on IRS filings, franchise/state taxes, and payroll taxes.
  • Maintain sales tax tracking and support multi-state filings
  • Support year-end tax and audit processes

  • Process Improvement & Systems
  • Review, streamline, and document finance workflows (e.g. Sales-to-Cash)
  • Strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency
  • Support system enhancements (billing tools, revenue systems, ERP/accounting upgrades)
  • Ensure consistent documentation of all finance processes

  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Manage, train, and review work of junior and data-entry accountants (onshore & offshore)
  • Act as escalation point for accounting, payroll, and tax issues
  • Partner closely with CEO, Sales, Operations, and teaching teams
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance management

  • Ad-Hoc & Executive Support
  • 710 years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 23 years of leadership/people management experience
  • Strong hands-on experience across full-cycle accounting (AR, AP, close, reporting, taxes)
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP and US-based accounting operations
  • Demonstrated experience with US tax compliance (IRS, payroll, franchise/state taxes)
  • Proven ability to improve processes and implement scalable workflows
  • Experience managing at least one direct report (onshore or offshore)
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel / Google Sheets
  • Fluent English with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, proactive, and solutions-oriented
  • Must overlap at least 4 hours daily with US Pacific Time (9:00 AM5:00PM PT)
  • Comfortable working with international, remote teams
