Job Description

Fire Systems Project Manager Data Centres

The Fire Systems Project Manager for Data Centers is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining advanced fire protection and life safety systems across mission-critical facilities. This role ensures that fire detection, suppression, and monitoring systems are designed, coordinated, and executed to protect sensitive IT infrastructure, maintain operational continuity, and comply with global data centre standards, local authority requirements, and project-specific specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Data-Centre Fire Protection Design

Oversee the design, coordination, and installation of fire alarm, suppression (clean agent, inert gas), and detection systems tailored to data centre environments. Ensure designs are technically robust, coordinated with other building systems, and aligned with operational and safety requirements.

Mission-Critical Project Management

Lead fire system projects from concept through detailed design, construction, testing, and commissioning, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and alignment with overall project programme, cost, and quality objectives.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure systems meet NFPA, local fire codes, and data centre-specific standards (e.g. Uptime Institute, ISO, TIA-942). Coordinate authority submissions, inspections, and approvals as required to achieve regulatory compliance.

Integration with Facility Systems

Coordinate fire systems with HVAC, electrical, ELV, and building management systems to ensure seamless operation, correct cause-and-effect functionality, and reliable system interfaces.

Risk Mitigation

Develop and implement strategies to protect servers, network equipment, power systems, and supporting infrastructure from fire-related risks, ensuring fire protection solutions do not cause unnecessary damage to critical hardware or operations.

Vendor & Contractor Oversight

Manage specialised contractors and suppliers responsible for fire detection and suppression technologies used in data centres. Monitor performance, quality, safety, and compliance with contractual and technical requirements.

Testing & Commissioning

Plan and conduct acceptance testing, system audits, and commissioning activities to verify performance, reliability, and compliance. Support integrated testing and handover to operations teams.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

Provide regular updates to facility managers, IT leadership, consultants, and compliance teams. Act as the primary point of contact for fire systemsrelated matters throughout the project lifecycle.
