General Manager

About the Role:

We're looking for a capable and driven General Manager to lead the setup and development of our new medical device manufacturing facility in Penang. As our primary representative on the ground, you'll be responsible for the full operationalisation of the sitefrom infrastructure setup and machinery procurement to regulatory compliance, team building, and production launch.

This is a part-time leadership role (approx. 20 hours/week) with flexibility to work remotely and attend on-site as required. As operations stabilise, the role has the potential to evolve into a full-time leadership position. In addition to overseeing setup and operations, you'll play a key role in driving regional distribution of our branded medical devices and managing contract manufacturing projects via our established overseas production facility.

We're looking for a self-sufficient leader with proven experience in medical device manufacturingparticularly implants and precision instrumentsand a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives with minimal supervision.

With over 50 years of heritage, we specialise in the production of surgical, dental, and veterinary instruments, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern precision to support healthcare professionals worldwide. We are now expanding our global footprint with a dedicated implant and instrument manufacturing facility in Malaysia. Alongside this, we are launching regional distribution for our medical device brand and offering OEM/contract manufacturing services to companies seeking a reliable, quality-driven production partner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the end-to-end setup of the manufacturing facility (layout, utilities, infrastructure, safety)
• Develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes, SOPs, and a QMS in line with ISO 13485
• Ensure full regulatory compliance: MDA, ISO 13485, FDA, CE Marking, EU MDR/MDD
• Generate leads and support B2B sales across Malaysia and Southeast Asia
• Manage OEM/contract manufacturing projects for third-party clients
• Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and key meetings
• Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, and timelines
• Manage vendor and supplier relationships; lead procurement and negotiations
• Identify and implement process improvements to drive operational excellence

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in manufacturing leadership, preferably in the medical device sector
• Proven success in facility setup, operations management, and regulatory compliance
• Strong knowledge of ISO 13485, MDA, FDA, CE, EU MDR/MDD
• Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional project management skills
• Ability to work independently while coordinating across teams and time zones
• Strong professional network in the local and international healthcare/medical device industry is a plus
