Prepare project plans, and directing internal project teams to accomplish tasks in order to meet requirements;
Provide GIS and spatial analytics to projects in accordance with project timeframes;
Provide high quality mapping and cartographic outputs for reporting, produced in line with SMEC style guidelines and mapping templates;
Provide input to proposals to accurately scope and cost GIS input;
Undertake data analyses and data conversion.
Promote the growth and utilisation of GIS within the business and identifying new opportunities:
Actively seek out work to self-manage incoming work;
Maintain good communications with opportunity managers to identify current proposal work and where GIS can add value;
Ongoing promotion internally of the capabilities and services GIS can offer;
Prepare project plans as necessary in order to accomplish tasks;
Promote understanding of ethical and legal issues surrounding the use of spatial data;
Provide services and communications in a timely, efficient, and constructive manner.
Assist desktop GIS users with queries and support.
Liaising to ensure that there is an efficient handover to the GIS Team where tasks become advanced or time sensitive;
Providing support and mentoring to users of ArcGIS, MapInfo Professional, QGIS and other packages within the various teams.
Assist projects and teams in spatial data and software acquisition.
Consult users to identify new data/software requirements;
Design, develop, test, document and certify applications, programs and systems functionality;
Diagnose and troubleshoot problems experienced with the use of GIS and related software;
Maintain a knowledge of software licenses status across the Region;
Maintain and training users in the operation of various field GIS hardware items, and managing the booking and availability of hardware;
Maintaining the core spatial data repository;
Working with government and commercial entities to procure data as required.
Job Specification
Education: Bachelors degree in relevant discipline. Post-graduate qualification in GIS or spatial science is preferred. Membership of recognised industry body is desirable.
Experience: At least 6 to 8 years of professional industry experience.
Technical Skills: Working at an advanced level in the provision of spatial science services; Proficiency in GIS software is required, including ArcGIS, MapInfo Professional, QGIS and other packages; Knowledge of Autodesk and other packages an advantage; Hands on in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for creating documents, managing data, and preparing presentations.
