PhD/MSc Opportunity at INBIOSIS UKM [Mar/Oct 2026 intake]
Responsibilities
This exciting wet lab project will involve an empirical study of dried yeast viability & vitality, optimisation of enzyme expression for gluten detoxification of flour dough, physico-chemical characterisation of treated dough, and formulation of optimal baking using bioengineered yeast.
*The successful candidate must enrol in a postgraduate programme at INBIOSIS, UKM. For self-funded students, the research project can be tailored according to interests.
Qualifications
BSc/Master's Degree in Science / Biochemistry / Food Science CGPA > 3.00 [>3.67 for Fast-track PhD]
Strong interests in molecular biology, industrial biotechnology, food science, and/or bakery
Diligent & determined to work independently on a research topic for 2-3 years
For international students: CEFR>=B2; TOEFL >=550 / IELTS >=6 with good scientific writing skills
The ideal candidate should have a solid molecular biology background, experience in wet labs (pipetting skills, PCR, extraction, and enzyme activity assays), with passion in food biotechnology, especially bakery.
