Principal Responsibilities

The Head Credit Cards Portfolio, Retention & Balance Growth will be responsible for driving growth for bank's credit card portfolio through strategic design and execution of portfolio led action. The incumbent would be responsible to implement prudent strategy for credit limit management. One of the key responsibilities include driving cards instalment sales through efficient targeting and pricing strategies. This role focuses on optimising portfolio profitability through effective balance growth strategies, improving customer retention, and managing portfolio risks across the card lifecycle. The incumbent will work closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Risk, Marketing, Data Analytics, Operations, and Technology to deliver superior customer outcomes while meeting business and regulatory objectives. The key primary responsibilities include

  • Own and drive the end-to-end performance of the credit card portfolio, including balances, attrition, and customer lifetime value.
  • Design and execute strategies to grow revolving balances, instalment balances, and overall receivables in a risk-appropriate manner.
  • Lead customer retention initiatives, including early-warning frameworks, targeted offers, engagement programs, and lifecycle management strategies.
  • Develop and optimise pricing, fee, interest, and promotional constructs to enhance portfolio profitability and competitiveness.
  • Drive data-led decision making using customer insights, behavioural analytics, and performance dashboards.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Product teams on campaigns, propositions, and portfolio initiatives aligned to growth and retention objectives.
  • Oversee performance tracking, reporting, and governance, including senior management and regulatory reporting where applicable.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing portfolio management team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in retail banking or cards, with strong exposure to credit card portfolio management, balance growth, and retention.
  • Proven track record of managing large credit card portfolios with clear ownership of P&L or key financial metrics.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk, customer behaviour, pricing strategies, and card economics.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and analytics to drive strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders across Product, Risk, Marketing, and Technology.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance considerations related to credit cards and consumer lending.
