Job Description

Job Responsibilities

1.Annual Audit Planning

  • Develop and implement a flexible audit strategy using appropriate risk based methodology including business process risk assessments for key business lines.
  • Identify strategic changes planned/undertaken by the auditee that will impact the audit plan.
  • Establish work plans, based on approved Project Outlines, including project schedules and staff scheduling at least quarterly, status updates, etc. to execute the Annual Audit Plan.
  • Execute the Annual Audit Plan and monitor status of completion to ensure deliverables are met.

2.Engagement Planning

  • Develop specific project outlines for assigned projects following development of the Annual Audit Plan.
  • Direct the planning of audits for diverse units by ensuring scope and extent of work is in accordance with the approved plan, timing and budget are reasonable, procedures are efficient, appropriate resources are assigned and risks understood.
  • Schedule audits and resources as necessary, ensuring the approved audit plan is implemented; ensure an integrated audit approach is applied, including secondment of staff from other business lines to assist in the audit project.

3.Audit Execution

  • Ensures department standards are followed in execution of assignments including the appropriate nature and extent of audit coverage.
  • Supervise staff in the audit and execution of assigned projects through on-site reviews of work papers; determine the effectiveness and reliability of internal control in relation to defined requirements; opines on the efficiency and effectiveness of assigned key processes.

4.Problem Identification

  • Ensure internal control weaknesses have been identified, errors have been quantified as appropriate, problems are properly defined, documented and reported, identified risk & control issues are clearly understood by management/product owner and confirm that corrective action will be taken.
  • Liaise with the responsible department(s) to ensure systemic and design opportunities are properly reported to the Management.
  • Review audit findings for the presentation to auditee(s) and the management.
  • Follow up on outstanding audit issues for timely resolution.

5.Reporting

  • Prepare/review reports for management providing concise and accurate information on the results of the audit and condition of the department/unit.
  • Issue periodic reports to the Audit Committee and management summarising results of audit activities.
  • Keep the Audit Committee informed of emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing.

6.Self/Staff Development and Teamwork

  • Prepare periodic and annual performance self-assessments, personal goals and objectives for measurement of performance, a career development and training plan and monitor quarterly for achievement/completion.
  • Manage the development of staff by providing direction and coaching; impart specialized skills and/or knowledge to other audit officers through peer discussions and cooperation on cross-functional audits, coaching and performance management.
  • Keep abreast of changes in laws, regulations, professional standards and changes in the Bank that could affect the business risk profile.

7.Internal/External Communication

  • Maintain on-going relationships with audit clients, line management, regulators and external auditors as required.
  • Maintain effective internal communication through the ongoing sharing and acquiring of information, to ensure senior management are timely kept informed of issues/concerns.

8.Human Resource Management

  • Ensure audit resources are efficiently and effectively employed.
  • Ensure appropriate HR/Performance management practices are deployed (i.e. KPIs, performance measurement, coaching, feedback, career development, etc.)

9.Special Projects

  • As advised by Audit Committee or requested by Management, to carry out specific projects or investigations.
  • Lead special investigations involving frauds, control failures or special needs of the Bank.

Job Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor degree in finance, banking, accounting or equivalent from a reputable university. Possesses the professional AICB certifications will be an added advantage.

  • At least 10 years experience in audit function. Minimum 5 years of experience in leading a team in the area of audit function.

  • Should be a strong leader with a proven track record in managing high-performance teams in the context of making a broad, positive impact on the organisation.

  • Familiar with audit processes/methodologies and able to write clear/concise audit reports will be an advantage.

  • Strong analytical skills and resourceful of business/ industry development.

  • Business acumen.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with all level of management.

  • Conversant in English and Chinese (spoken/written).

  • PC literate preferably in Windows Microsoft Office (e.g. Words, Excel, etc).
