Job Description

In this role, you'll lead the Legal and Compliance function for Malaysia and Singapore (including support for Brunei activities managed through Malaysia), providing strategic legal counsel, strengthening governance and compliance frameworks, and enabling sustainable business growth through effective risk management and ethical business practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide strategic, commercially focused legal and compliance advice to business leaders, enabling informed decision-making and supporting the achievement of business objectives.
  • Advise cross-functional stakeholders on commercial, regulatory, marketing, tender, customer engagement and product launch activities, translating complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate legal and compliance risks across the organization, including matters relating to anti-bribery and corruption, competition law, employment law, investigations, product liability and dispute management.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and manage a broad range of commercial agreements and contracts, ensuring appropriate protection of company interests while supporting business priorities.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the local compliance framework, including governance, risk assessments, monitoring activities, policy deployment, training and ethics awareness initiatives.
  • Ensure effective corporate governance and corporate secretarial support for the relevant legal entities, maintaining compliance with statutory obligations and global governance standards.
  • Contribute as a key member of the Malaysia and Singapore leadership team by providing independent judgment, constructive challenge and strategic legal input on business-critical decisions and market opportunities.
  • Oversee investigations, external counsel relationships, legal operations, compliance systems and budget management while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability and high performance across the organization.

Essential Requirements

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Qualified legal practitioner with a recognized law degree and admission to practice in Malaysia would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive legal experience, ideally gained through a combination of leading private practice and senior in-house legal counsel roles.
  • Extensive experience providing legal support across corporate and commercial matters, contract negotiation, governance, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution.
  • Proven track record of advising senior executives and leadership teams on complex legal, compliance and strategic business issues.
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks, investigations, anti-bribery and corruption requirements, competition law and enterprise risk management practices.
  • Experience working within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, medical device or another highly regulated industry would be highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders within regional and/or global matrix organizations.
  • Strong commercial acumen, sound judgment and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to balance legal risk against business opportunity in a fast-paced environment.
