Department: Group Legal

Reports to: Group Managing Director

Work Location: Plaza OSK, KL

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES:

Responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Legal department, provision of legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN:

• Develop framework for Legal and Corporate Governance in order to safeguard and manage the Group's legal and business risk
• Provide leadership and ensure efficient and effective management of staff and resources in order to provide support to the business throughout the Group
• Drafting, negotiating and vetting contracts, legal documents and agreements
• Manage internal and external legal counsels on the Group's litigation, other legal and compliance matters.
• Contributes towards raising awareness amongst the business units as to the legal risks to the Group and the critical need to take proactive measures to mitigate the Group's potential exposure
• Develop and continuously update the relevant policies and procedures
• Keep abreast with all relevant changes of laws/regulations/rules and provide advice to the Group accordingly
• Observe and comply at all times with all Acts, laws, articles of associations, rules and regulations pertaining to and/or affecting the Group's business and be conversant with all statutory updates (where required) as may be introduced thereto
• Representing the company in legal proceedings, working with outside counsel when required.
• Performing and coordinating ad-hoc (legal) projects for the Group as required
• To carry out any other duties as and when instructed by the Management from time to time

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE:

• LLB Honors, practicing lawyer. Those called to bar will be highly preferred
• At least 15 - 18 years of relevant work experience in legal field (private / corporate practice) ,specializing in Property and Financial Services sectors
• Work experience in corporate advisory, litigation as well as, property and constructions matters; CIPAA, construction disputes is essential
