IGCSE ESL Teacher

Assalamu alaykum.

We are looking for an IGCSE English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to teach Grades 7–11 (secondary/high school) at Brainy Bunch Islamic International School, Gombak/Taman Melawati, Malaysia.

IGCSE English as a Second Language Teacher

Responsibilities

• Teach English as a Second Language to ESL students in Grades 7–11.
• Working hours are 7:30am to 5pm Mon-Fri, full time.
• Prepare students for the Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language examination.
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons covering reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and examination skills.
• Develop and adapt teaching materials to meet different levels of English proficiency.
• Assess student progress through classwork, assignments, quizzes, tests, and mock examinations.
• Provide constructive feedback and targeted support to help students improve their English proficiency.
• Prepare students for the demands and format of the IGCSE examination.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and attainment.
• Work collaboratively with other teachers and school staff to support students academic development.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and supportive Islamic school environment.
• Participate in relevant school activities, meetings, professional development, and other responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
• Teaching qualification/certification preferred.
• Experience teaching ESL/EFL and/or Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language preferred.
• Strong command of spoken and written English.
• Familiarity with the Cambridge IGCSE ESL syllabus and examination requirements.
• Ability to teach students with a range of English proficiency levels.
• Strong classroom management and lesson-planning skills.
• Commitment to student-centered learning and continuous professional development.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international-school environment.
• Commitment to maintaining an Islamic and values-based educational environment.
• Basic Islamic knowledge for the purpose of Islamification of the subject and religious guidance of the students.
• A desire to integrate Islamic knowledge into your subject.
• A desire to learn and study Islam on a personal level and pursue lifelong, continuous spiritual growth.
• Willingness to learn and improve.
• Hard working.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• Previous experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE ESL.
• Experience teaching Grades 7–11.
• Familiarity with Cambridge assessment objectives, past papers, and examination strategies.
• Experience supporting students who are learning English as an additional language.
• A recognized teaching qualification such as PGCE, teaching license, CELTA, DELTA, TESOL, or equivalent.
• Experience working in an international-school setting.
• Our ESL students are mostly from China, so knowing some Chinese and how its grammar compares to English is a plus, but not a requirement.
