Job Description

Position Purpose

The Head of Department, Infrastructure C Data Platform is responsible for the day-to-day management, implementation and continuous improvement of theCompany's infrastructure and data platform operations.

The role is expected to have stronger technical depth in database and data platform management while maintaining sufficient infrastructure knowledge to oversee network, server, virtualisation, storage, cloud, backup and related operational activities.

The HOD works closely with the Division Head, internal IT teams, business stakeholders and external service providers to ensure infrastructure and data platforms are stable, secure, properly maintained and aligned with approved architecture, standards and governance requirements.

The role alsoprovides hands-on technical leadership to the team, supervises operational activitiesand develops broader cross-domain capability to reduce dependency on individual specialists.

Key Responsibilities

1.Infrastructure s Data Platform Operations

  • Manage day-to-day infrastructure and data platform operations in accordance with approved standards, procedures andservice requirements.
  • Coordinate monitoring, maintenance, incident resolution, problem management and technical troubleshooting across infrastructure and data platform environments.
  • Ensure operational issues are properly prioritised, investigated, documented and escalated where necessary.

  • Support implementation of infrastructure and data platform improvements, upgrades and technical changes.
  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation, operating procedures and configuration records.

2.Data Platform s Database Management

  • Administer and maintain enterprise databases and data platforms to ensure availability, performance, reliability and security.
  • Monitor database health, performance, capacity and utilisation, and perform appropriate optimisation and tuning.
  • Manage database backup, restoration, recovery and maintenance activities.
  • Implement approved data architecture, data models, integration patterns and platform standards.
  • Support the development and operation of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, data warehouses, data lakes and related data platform capabilities.
  • Investigate recurring data issues and work with application owners, Data Owners and relevantteams to addressroot causes.
  • Support implementation of enterprise data governance, ownership, stewardship and data quality controls.
  • Maintain technical data documentation including database structures, data models, mappingsand operating procedures.

3.Enterprise Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee operational management of network and connectivity, servers, operating systems, virtualisation, storage, cloud infrastructure and data centre services within the division's scope.
  • Monitor infrastructure availability, performance and capacity and ensure issues are addressed in a timelymanner.
  • Coordinate patching, firmware updates, infrastructure maintenance, upgrades and lifecycleactivities.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure incidents, including coordination with internal teams and external vendors.

  • Review technical work performed by team members and service providers to ensure appropriate standards and practices are followed.
  • Support the development of broader server and infrastructure capability within the team.

4.Availability, Backup, Recovery s Security

  • Ensure assigned infrastructure and data platforms meet agreed availability, backup, recovery and resilience requirements.
  • Monitor backup activities and perform or coordinate restoration and recovery testing.
  • Support disaster recovery exercises and remediation of identified weaknesses.
  • Implement infrastructure and data platform security controls in accordance with approved Information Security Governance requirements.
  • Support vulnerability remediation, patch management, system hardening, audit activities and technical risk treatment.
  • Escalate significant availability, resilience, security or operational risks to the Division Head.

5.Vendor, Service s Technology Management

  • Coordinate day-to-day activities with infrastructure, network, database, cloud and data platform vendorsand service providers.
  • Monitor vendor service performance, SLA achievement, incident resolution and technical deliverables.
  • Review vendor technical recommendations and escalate concerns relating to cost, complexity, maintainability or risk.
  • Support technology lifecycle, capacity and cost optimisation activities.
  • Ensure vendor implementation work includes appropriate documentation, knowledge transfer and operational handover.
  • Maintain sufficient internal knowledge to avoid unnecessary dependency on external serviceproviders.

6.Team Supervision s Capability Development

  • Supervise and guide team members in infrastructure and data platform operational activities.
  • Assign work, monitor progress and ensure tasks are completed according to agreed priorities and service requirements.
  • Provide technical coaching across database, data platform, server and infrastructure domains.
  • Develop broader cross-domain capability within the team, particularly in server and infrastructure operations.
  • Promote structured troubleshooting, documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Division Head in performance management, capability planning and recruitment activities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, DataEngineering or relateddiscipline.
  • Relevant professional certifications are advantageous.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in database administration, data platform, infrastructure, server, network or related technology disciplines.
  • At least 1-2 years in a supervisory, team lead or senior technical role.
  • Strong hands-on experience in database administration and/or enterprise data platform management.
  • Practical experience with server, virtualisation, storage, cloud or related infrastructure technologies.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise network and connectivity environments.
  • Experience in operational monitoring, incident troubleshooting, backup, recovery and technical maintenance.
  • Experience working with external technology vendors or managed service providers.
  • Experience supporting business-critical enterprise systems and platforms.
