Job Description

YOUR ROLE AS A:

Intellectual Property Specialist

Intellectual Property Specialist is responsible for managing the company's intellectual property portfolio, providing legal advice on IP-related matters, and ensuring protection and enforcement of the company's IP rights. This role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating IP agreements, handling IP registrations, and mitigating IP risks to support the company's business objectives.

WHAT YOU'LL CHAMPION:

  • Provide legal advice and support on all intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and franchise
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of the Group's intellectual property assets, including the strategic registration and protection of trademarks, patents, industrial designs, and copyright, domestically and internationally, while managing domain name portfolios.
  • Lead the negotiation and draft and review of high-value commercial agreements, including IP licensing, franchising, assignments, technology transfers, and media/entertainment contracts, ensuring strict compliance with advertising, labelling, and product registration laws.
  • Monitor and advise on IP infringement issues and coordinate enforcement actions when necessary
  • Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and business teams to identify and protect intellectual property
  • Stay updated on IP laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and advise on risks
  • Support dispute resolution, litigation, and alternative dispute mechanisms related to IP
  • Prepare reports and maintain comprehensive records of IP assets and legal activities
  • Liaise with external IP counsel, government agencies, and regulatory bodies as needed
  • Draft and review privacy policies, data transfer agreements, internal data governance frameworks, cross-border data transfer agreements and internal data protection documentation
  • Draft and negotiate high-impact technology and licensing agreements (AI, SaaS, PaaS) while managing the group's IP portfolio to protect and commercialize proprietary assets.
  • Lead organizational compliance for the PDPA 2024 amendments and cross-border transfer frameworks.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent; Master's or specialized qualification in Intellectual Property Law preferred. Admission to Malaysian Bar or equivalent qualification is required.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience specializing in intellectual property law, in-house or at a law firm. Minimum 3 years of law firm experience in IP.
  • Strong IP and PDPA knowledge across relevant and foreign jurisdictions
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
