This role is part of our Intern Program and is designed to attract high-potential undergraduate students from Engineering, Science, and IT disciplines. Interns will be assigned to project-based roles that support business objectives while building real-world skills through meaningful, hands-on experience.
The program offers exposure to the medical device manufacturing environment, cross-functional teamwork, structured learning, and opportunities to participate in engagement and development activities. Successful interns will gain valuable industry experience and be considered for future opportunities within Smith+Nephew.
What will you be doing
Interns will work closely with managers and cross-functional teams to support day-to-day operations and project execution. Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, or IT projects aligned to business needs
- Collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to support process improvement, quality, and operational efficiency initiatives
- Assisting with root cause investigations, documentation reviews, testing, validation activities, and technical studies
- Supporting process mapping, equipment setup, material preparation, and system or data-related tasks under supervision
- Contributing to continuous improvement and lean initiatives
- Preparing reports and presenting project outcomes to stakeholders and leadership
Assignments will vary based on business function, academic background, and project availability.
What will you need to be successful
Education
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in:- Manufacturing Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Engineering or Applied Science
- Information Technology / Computer Science
- or other relevant technical fields
- Strong interest in manufacturing, engineering, science, or technology environments
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- A proactive learner with strong initiative, adaptability, and teamwork mindset
- Able to manage multiple tasks, timelines, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment
- Real project ownership and hands-on exposure
- Learning from experienced professionals in a global medical technology company
- Development of technical, professional, and workplace skills
