Database Administrator (Technical Lead successor) requires in-depth knowledge of respective RDBMS technology specifically major and minor in both of the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) - (MS SQL and MySQL) to perform general administration,
database maintenance, performance monitoring, security management, infrastructure
database design, backup and recovery, automation and health monitoring of the current DB
servers and its respective databases for the company and its subsidiaries. This role is not limited
to support all BAU tasks and application users request, involve in any projects that requires
RDBMS expertise, DB server provisioning, engineering, integration, setup and design of various
type of infrastructure database depending on the criticality of the respective application which
measured by RTO, RPO and application SLA, resolving issues related to area of performance,
compatibility, security and accessibility, working end to end with various RDBMS/Application
principal vendor to resolve technically challenging issues including supporting audit activity.
Candidate is required to work under pressure to deliver and provide support 24 x 7 x 365 when
required from management.
Job Description
- Ensure team member aware of their daily role and responsibility. Otherwise, candidate has accountability to provide guidance/assistance to junior team members.
- Regular technical know-how discussion and knowledge sharing session is vital to ensure junior DBA able to catch up to speed with current trends and activity require more complex scenario and preparation.
- Oversee and perform daily routine of general administration and health check activity whenever required according to Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to ensure Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) (MS SQL and MySQL) is error free and in optimal condition.
- Ensure request queue in form of (SR/IR/CR) is properly created, attended and resolved.
- Any findings from the health check from various source (Manual Health Check, SCOM, MySQL monitoring, Trellix and etc.) shall be proactively resolved following ITIL process.
- Ensure backup is properly done Daily, Weekly and Monthly depending on policy scheduled in Commvault backup. Any issue/findings shall rectify promptly according to ITIL process.
- Perform review and approval on PAM session related request on DB session for junior DBA as well as application team.
- Perform production environment related assessment for each project especially during the post provisioning phase to ensure the created host (Physical/VM) is stable and ready for further testing and implementation.
- Prepare Implementation Plan, Pre-CAB checklist, application owner approval as well as sign-off when necessary to be attached in CR for production implementation after Development and UAT testing has been completed.
- Taking ownership of each incident, preparing incident report, arranging discussion with stakeholder not limited to application team, vendor and principal to further investigate and deliberate fixes as well as RCA findings.
- Participate and involve in application projects in various phases to provide assessment input not limited to Database development, Migration, Integration, Application and System Risk Assessment (SRA), Technology Risk Assessment (TRA), Privilege ID (PID) Assessment and handover.
- Actively document, drive, coordinate and implement various Service Improvement Plan (SIP) related area of Database team not limited to automate manual process/extraction, patching, upgrade, maintenance, migration and performance improvement activity.
- Involved and support organization Business Continuity Plan (BCP) as well as Disaster Recovery(DR) activity in area related to application as well as database availability.
- Perform automated provisioning as well as hardening of RDBMS instance via Ansible and liaise with vendor for any issue or failure during the process. Create and amend playbook automation if needed for further amendment and improvement with assistance from vendor if required.
- Review and scrutinize provisioned DB instance is configured according to system design and requirement documented from vendor or system application architect according to technical Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) documentation (Operation Acceptance Test (OAT), Security Acceptance Test (SAT) and Performance Acceptance Test (PAT)).
- Involve and support incident escalation from application team not limited to provide performance capture, configuration and report, performance tuning activity, capacity assessment activity, database restore and recovery when required.
- Actively participate in cybersecurity tabletop exercise in area of infrastructure and database security scenarios.
- Participate in monthly windows patching activity as well as quarterly DB patching for all database servers. Embark on patching automation to ensure no manual patching process.
- Ensure all RDBMS is properly patched according to current DB servers and provide patch assurance report with assistance from team members.
- Ensure DB inventory from Configuration Management Database (CMDB) or IT Asset Management (ITAM) is properly reviewed and up to date for further licensing related scrutiny.
- Involved in audit review and cooperate closely with internal and external auditor via IT Security Operation, provide evidence and artefact as required including assessment.
- Produce various documentation such as KB, SOP, guidelines, test plan, project tracker, change tracker and Incident Report. Provide guidance to junior team member as and when required.
Qualification / Requirement
- Minimal with Diploma in Computer Science and related fields.
- Professional certification is mandatory in 1 of RDBMS discipline (MS or Oracle)
- Minimal of 5-year experience in RDBMS preferably in mix of L2 (at least 3 years) and L3 support on MS SQL and/or MySQL.
- Rich of experience in at least 4 RDBMS areas of support (BAU, Deployment, Project, Audit, Security, Automation and reporting).
