Job Description
We are looking for a Junior Cost Manager to support the delivery of day-to-day cost management activities throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will assist with cost planning, estimating, change management, invoice review, cost reporting, risk management, and project close-out activities.
Working closely with Senior Cost Managers, Project Managers, Design Teams, Contractors, and other project stakeholders, you will help maintain accurate project cost records, ensure cost visibility, and support effective commercial decision-making. This role will initially work under the guidance of experienced cost management team members while progressively taking ownership of defined work packages and reporting activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of cost estimates and cost plans using available project information and relevant benchmarking data.
- Assist with value engineering and lifecycle costing exercises to identify potential cost efficiencies.
- Prepare and maintain cost control reports, forecasts, and financial reports for review by senior team members.
- Maintain change order logs, invoice logs, commitments, and detailed project cost reports.
- Conduct initial reviews of change orders, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure completeness and alignment with project records.
- Identify potential commercial and cost risks and support the maintenance of project risk registers.
- Participate in pre-contract and post-contract meetings and provide cost-related input where required.
- Attend client, project, and design team meetings and document key decisions, action items, and cost implications.
- Support the assessment of cost impacts arising from design developments and agreed project changes.
- Perform measurement, pricing research, benchmarking, and supporting commercial analysis.
- Assist with contract administration and project close-out activities.
- Maintain project templates, trackers, databases, and reporting tools.
- Escalate material cost, change, or commercial issues to senior cost management team members.
- Take ownership of assigned work packages and reporting activities under appropriate supervision.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Cost Management, Engineering, Data Analytics with a construction or cost focus, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in cost management, quantity surveying, project controls, or a related field.
- Experience supporting cost reports, cost plans, change registers, invoice logs, and commercial project controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Ability to conduct pricing research, benchmarking, and basic commercial analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project and financial records.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and clients.
- Ability to work accurately within defined processes and under the guidance of senior team members.
