Role Overview
The Key Account Lead will be responsible for driving merchant growth and excellence for Alipay+ across Malaysia, with a strong focus on key accounts and major commercial districts in Malaysia , This role combines strategic planning with hands-on execution to ensure high-quality merchant coverage, strong POSM visibility, and consistent transaction growth.
Successful candidate is expected to own key market portfolios end-to-end developing market strategies, managing ecosystem partnerships, and driving on-ground performance through close collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
This role requires a highly commercial, data-driven individual who is equally comfortable in strategic discussions, with a strong execution, accountability, and measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain country-level business plans, including market assessments, ecosystem mapping, commercial models, and TPV/GMV growth projections
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams (BD, Marketing, Operations, Product) to manage strategic partnerships, execute initiatives, and continuously improve merchant performance
- Collaborate closely with the Marketing team to design and execute high-impact campaigns, ensuring strong performance and continuous innovation in partner solutions
- Conduct regular field visits to key commercial districts and tourist corridors to assess on-ground execution, identify gaps, and ensure high standards of POSM visibility and merchant readiness
- Analyze transaction trends, merchant performance, and customer behavior to generate insights and recommend strategies to improve penetration, activation, and retention
- Drive TPV growth from non-China wallets by increasing their contribution to overall transaction volume, through targeted merchant activation, improved acceptance readiness, and focused initiatives in key tourist segments
Job description
- At least 9+ years of experience in merchant management, key account management, merchant acquiring, or field sales within payments, fintech, banking, or card schemes
- Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem, including acquiring business, QR payments, cross-border payments, e-wallets, and card schemes
- Proven track record of managing and growing merchant portfolios, improving merchant performance (e.g., activation, retention, TPV), and driving on-ground execution excellence
- Ability to identify performance gaps at the merchant level and implement targeted actions to improve conversion, usage, and overall productivity
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate across internal teams and external partners to deliver results
- Fluent in English, with strong cross-cultural communication skills, Mandarin would be a plus
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze merchant-level performance, transaction trends, and customer behavior to inform actions
- Self-motivated, hands-on, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, flexible environment
