Job Description

Lead Engineer | Marine Survey Systems, Integration & Operations

OMS Group is a global, neutral, and integrated telecommunications infrastructure service provider, delivering end-to-end solutions across the digital value chain. From Submarine Cable Installation and Marine Maintenance to Cable Landing Stations, Network Backhaul, and Data Centre Connectivity, we are at the forefront of connecting the world. Our capabilities in Submarine Cable Installation and Marine Maintenance comprises installation and repair of deep and shallow water fibre-optic cable systems, shore end installation, engineering and subsea surveys.

We are seeking a Lead Engineer to lead the end-to-end engineering, integration, and operational readiness of advanced marine survey systems across vessels, ROC, USVs and AUVs. This role combines deep technical ownership with team leadership, standards governance, and operational support in complex offshore environments.

What you'll be doing:

  • Own end-to-end engineering for positioning systems (USBL/LBL, GNSS/INS/DVL, attitude/heading, acoustics, telemetry), geophysical systems (MBES, SSS, SBP, magnetometer) and geotechnical systems (Corer, Grab, CPT)
  • Lead systems integration, FAT/SAT, configuration control, wiring and communications architecture, timing/distribution and interference management
  • Drive root cause analysis, defect resolution and robust design improvements
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, test procedures, certification, traceability, MoC, asset registers, calibration and spares strategies
  • Line-lead engineers and technicians; plan resourcing, conduct technical briefings, coach capability and develop structured upskilling playbooks
  • Support mission planning including platform fit, payload selection, power/comms constraints, redundancy and endurance
  • Plan and manage vessel/USV mobilisations and demobilisations; provide remote and on-call support during live operations
  • Oversee survey system maintenance and workshop activities
  • Manage OEM relationships, technology trials, upgrades, obsolescence planning, and support bids with technical scope, equipment lists and risk allowances

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechatronics, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience in marine, offshore, hydrographic, or subsea survey environments.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of survey positioning, geophysical and geotechnical systems.
  • Proven experience leading systems integration, FAT/SAT, mobilisation and live operations support.
  • Solid understanding of engineering governance, configuration management and MoC.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing engineers and technicians.
  • Confident stakeholder manager, comfortable working with OEMs and supporting commercial bids.
  • Able to operate in fast-paced, operationally critical environments with a practical, solutions-driven mindset.

If you are a senior engineer who thrives on technical ownership, complex offshore operations and leading high-performing teams, we would love to hear from you.
