Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
To lead and embed the Group's ESG and sustainability agenda across its operations, projects and business activities. The role provides strategic leadership in ESG governance, sustainability performance, climate and carbon management, reporting and stakeholder engagement, aligned with recognised standards and the Group's long-term objectives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. ESG Strategy & Governance
- Develop and continuously enhance the Group's ESG and Sustainability Framework, policies, governance structure, materiality assessments and improvement plans.
- Lead the implementation of the Group's sustainability strategy and roadmap.
- Integrate ESG considerations into business planning, project development, operations and corporate decision-making.
2. Sustainability Reporting & Disclosure
- Drive alignment with recognised frameworks, including IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, GRI, SASB, TCFD/CDP, FTSE4Good and NSRF.
- Lead the preparation of sustainability disclosures, ESG reports, management updates and submissions.
- Monitor emerging ESG requirements, rating methodologies and industry best practices.
3. ESG Performance & Data Management
- Establish, monitor and report the Group's ESG performance indicators, targets and commitments.
- Oversee the collection, validation, analysis and consolidation of ESG data.
- Coordinate ESG assessments, sustainability ratings, benchmarking and assurance exercises.
4. Climate & Carbon Management
- Lead greenhouse gas accounting, carbon-reduction targets, decarbonisation initiatives and climate-related disclosures.
- Identify ESG, sustainability and climate-related risks and opportunities.
- Promote resource efficiency, circular economy and responsible business practices across operations and projects.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory
- Provide ESG insights, performance updates and strategic recommendations to Senior Management, the Board and relevant committees.
- Support ESG and sustainability due diligence for projects, investments, partnerships and business opportunities.
- Establish partnerships with government agencies, industry bodies, academic institutions, communities and other stakeholders.
- Represent the Group at sustainability forums, working groups and industry initiatives.
6. Leadership & Capability Building
- Collaborate with business units and functional teams to embed sustainability across the Group.
- Drive sustainability awareness through training, engagement, campaigns and knowledge-sharing programmes.
- Influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders while balancing sustainability ambitions with commercial and operational priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Corporate Governance or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Sustainability, ESG, Climate Change or Sustainable Finance would be an advantage.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in sustainability, ESG, corporate strategy, sustainability reporting or related areas, including leadership experience.
- Experience in energy, power, renewable energy, infrastructure, engineering, construction or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.
- Experience in sustainability ratings, benchmarking, assurance and stakeholder engagement would be advantageous.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong knowledge of IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, GRI, SASB, TCFD/CDP, FTSE4Good and NSRF.
- Strong understanding of ESG governance, climate-related risks, carbon management and sustainability reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage ESG data, targets, disclosures and assurance processes.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, analytical and stakeholder-management capabilities.
- Ability to translate evolving ESG requirements into practical business strategies and initiatives.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, particularly when engaging Senior Management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to project and operational sites when required.
