Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Lead Mechanical Engineer, based in Johor Bahru. We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development of innovative home appliances. The role will be responsible for driving mechanical architecture, product innovation, and engineering excellence across multiple new product development programs.
The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers to design and develop Home Appliances products such as:
- Room Air Purifiers
- Bladeless Fans
- Portable Air Coolers
- Air Humidifiers
- Air Dehumidifiers
- Food Waste Decomposers
This role requires strong expertise in mechanical design, product architecture, materials, manufacturing processes, and design validation, combined with leadership capability to manage engineering teams and complex development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical architecture and system-level design of new consumer appliance products.
- Develop innovative mechanical solutions that balance performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
- Design and engineer components including plastic injection molded parts, elastomeric components, sheet metal parts, die-cast parts, and mechanical assemblies.
- Define product structure, internal layout, packaging, and assembly strategy.
- Drive concept generation, prototyping, testing, and design validation.
- Lead multiple New Product Introduction (NPI) programs from concept to mass production.
- Lead design reviews, risk reviews, and engineering decision-making processes.
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
- Provide technical direction, mentoring and coaching to junior engineers.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and accountability.
- Work closely with electrical, firmware, industrial design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure design feasibility, tooling readiness, and manufacturing scalability.
- Support cost optimization, reliability improvements, and product certification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of mechanical design experience in consumer appliances, HVAC, or electro-mechanical products.
- 3+ years in a technical leadership or team leadership role is preferred.
- Proven track record of bringing products from concept to mass production.
- Proficiency in Mechanical Engineering Design concepts.
- Experience using advanced CAD and FEA tools and softwares.
- Experience in engineering design tools and methodologies such as tolerance analysis, DFx, statistical analysis tools, RCA, FTA, TRIZ, etc.
- Knowledge and expertise in Research and Development (R&D) processes and governance.
- Strong Project Management skills to lead and coordinate projects efficiently.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.
- Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
- Candidates with experience in the following industries will have an advantage: Home appliances, HVAC, air treatment poducts, air filtration.
