Legal Counsel

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our legal team, specializing in oil & gas and/or the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Legal Advisory & Strategy: Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance to project teams and business units regarding oil & gas, construction related projects, commercial contracts, and related legal matters.
• Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of various commercial contracts, including EPCC contracts, loan agreements, general contractor agreements, subcontracts, joint venture agreements, and supply of goods and services contracts.
• Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve disputes related to oil, gas and/or construction projects, including claims, delays, cost overruns, and other construction-related conflicts. Represent the company in arbitration, mediation, and litigation as required.
• Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with projects. Advise on compliance with industry regulations, zoning laws, environmental laws, and safety standards.
• Training & Development: Provide training and development to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance issues related to relevant laws and regulatory obligations.
• Project Support: Collaborate closely with project managers and teams to ensure that all legal aspects of contracts and projects are handled efficiently and in accordance with the law.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of legal and compliance matters and advise on reporting obligations as required by regulatory bodies or stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: LL.B and Admission to the Malaysian Bar or other Commonwealth jurisdictions. Strong foundation in the fundamentals of contract law, and strong grasp of company law and commercial law is added advantage.
• Experience: At least 5 years of legal experience in a top tier law firm and in-house legal department,
• Industry Knowledge: understanding of the construction industry, management of dispute resolutions, insurance concepts is preferred
