About Your Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced legal professional to join our team in Malaysia. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive legal support across various functions of the company, including contract negotiation, corporate governance, compliance, and dispute resolution. This role requires a thorough understanding of Malaysian legal principles and practices, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Malaysian leadership team, you will lead in identifying and mitigating legal risks associated with the company's operations in Malaysia.
  • Draft, structure, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including collaboration agreements, tenancy agreements, dealer agreements, etc., ensuring the company's interests are protected.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on various issues and provide practical and strategic advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Manage and resolve legal disputes, including mediation and litigation in Malaysia.
  • Provide support for regional corporate exercises, including M&A and financing activities. Provide support for regional commercial deal structuring.
  • Advise on and ensure compliance with Malaysian laws and regulations, including data privacy, employment law, and industry-specific regulations. Develop and update internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Malaysian legal requirements.
  • Assist in preparing board materials and ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements under Malaysian law.
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring effective collaboration.
  • Liaise with external legal advisors as and when required and monitor the performance to ensure high-quality services are provided.
  • Provide training and education to employees on legal matters, compliance, and company policies (as required).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) from a leading university.
  • Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and possessing a valid practising certificate
  • At least 3 years of relevant legal experience, with at least 1 year of practice experience in a reputable law firm in Malaysia.
  • Experienced in corporate matters, including acquisitions/joint ventures, and financing matters. Familiarity with data privacy regulations, employment law, and industry-specific laws is a plus.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Deliver creative, thoughtful, and business-oriented results that balance growth and risk in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter, driven, and organised. Agile and able to adapt to changing demands.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken. Proficiency in the Chinese language is a plus.
