Role Description:

This is a full-time Legal Officer role based in Kuching. The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal advice, reviewing and preparing legal documents, and ensuring compliance with applicable business, contract, and corporate laws.

In addition to legal advisory duties, the role will support and perform Company Secretarial functions for i-CATS University College, including ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, maintaining corporate records, and supporting governance processes.

Key responsibilities include legal consulting, assisting in contract drafting and negotiations, and providing guidance on a broad range of legal and governance matters. The Legal Officer will work closely with Management, the Board, and various departments to manage legal and corporate risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and align legal and governance practices with institutional objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise in Business Law, with the ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory frameworks
  • Sound experience in legal consulting and providing practical legal advice
  • Proven experience in legal document drafting, review, and compliance assurance
  • In-depth knowledge of Contract Law, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements
  • Certification in Company Secretarial Practice (e.g. MAICSA/ICSA or equivalent) and/or experience performing Company Secretarial functions is a strong advantage
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, statutory compliance, and regulatory reporting
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification
  • Professional certification or license to practice law is desirable
  • Prior experience in a legal advisory, in-house legal, or company secretarial role is an added advantage
