Malaysia Legal Manager - Southeast Asia Operations

Role Purpose

Serve as a key legal business partner supporting day-to-day operations across Southeast Asia while helping build a scalable regional legal operating model. The role will support Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and selected regional projects, providing practical legal advice, coordinating cross-border matters and strengthening legal infrastructure across the region. The position is intended to serve as a core operational pillar and succession resource within the Southeast Asia legal organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Partnering

• Act as the primary legal contact for designated Southeast Asian markets.
• Provide practical, commercially-oriented legal advice to business teams.
• Support retail, e-commerce, wholesale, marketing, supply chain and corporate functions.

2. Commercial Contracts

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements.
• Maintain contract templates and contracting processes.
• Support key commercial negotiations and risk assessments.

3. Legal Operations & Regional Coordination

• Manage legal request workflow and matter tracking.
• Coordinate legal support across multiple Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
• Maintain legal databases, reporting systems and documentation.
• Drive process standardization and operational efficiency.

4. Compliance & Governance

• Monitor regulatory developments across the region.
• Support implementation of compliance programs, policies and training.
• Assist with corporate governance, regulatory filings and internal controls.

5. Projects & Expansion

• Support market entry, corporate restructuring, retail expansion and strategic business projects.
• Coordinate external counsel and manage legal spend effectively.
• Participate in regional legal initiatives and transformation projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent.
• Qualified lawyer in Malaysia or other common law jurisdiction preferred.
• 6–10 years of legal experience, preferably in-house or supporting multinational businesses.
• Experience in retail, consumer products, sportswear, fashion, FMCG or e-commerce sectors preferred.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation capability.
• Experience handling cross-border legal matters and multiple stakeholders.
