Job Description

Driving World-Class Operational Excellence Through Lean Transformation!

At Resmed, our manufacturing network is evolving to deliver higher productivity, quality, and resilience at scale. As part of this journey, the Malaysia manufacturing site plays a critical role in becoming a world-class Lean model factory - representing excellence in waste elimination, flow, and continuous improvement.

To enable this transformation, we are building a Lean culture of excellence that integrates both:

  • A disciplined Lean system built on standardised work, structured problem-solving, visual management, and systematic waste elimination across value streams.

  • A deeply embedded continuous improvement mindset reflected in daily behaviours, disciplined execution, and high standards of visual management and operational excellence

We're seeking a Manager for Lean Excellence in Malaysia to drive the Lean factory of the future in Malaysia - establishing a benchmark site that exemplifies excellence in waste elimination, flow, and continuous improvement across our global network.

Reporting to the Director, Business Excellence, this role will lead the advancement of Lean maturity across the Malaysia manufacturing site by embedding a disciplined Lean system, establishing consistent standards, and enabling a sustained pipeline of year-on-year productivity improvements. The practices, standards, and operating model developed at this site will serve as the reference for scaling Lean across the global network.

This position is critical to establishing Malaysia as a best-in-class manufacturing facility, demonstrating superior operational performance through rigorous application of Lean principles and a deeply embedded culture of continuous improvement.

The Opportunity:

As the Manager, Lean Excellence - Malaysia, you will lead the site's Lean transformation journey - shaping both the Lean system and the culture of excellence required to achieve world-class performance.

You will define and execute a Lean maturity roadmap, ensuring the consistent deployment of Lean tools, governance, and standards, while embedding a mindset where continuous improvement becomes an integral part of daily operations, leadership routines, and decision-making.

You will work closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams to:

  • Establish Malaysia as a model Lean factory and benchmark for the network

  • Enable a strong, sustainable productivity pipeline through targeted initiatives.

  • Embed waste identification and elimination as a core organisational capability

  • Ensure the manufacturing environment reflects high standards of visual management, workplace organization, and operational discipline

This role combines hands-on deployment, capability building, and change leadership, ensuring Lean practices are effectively implemented, sustained, and continuously improved.

Let's Talk About Responsibilities:

Lean Strategy, Framework & Global Standards

  • Define and execute the Lean maturity roadmap for the Malaysia manufacturing site.

  • Develop and embed a structured Lean system including tools, methods, governance, and standardisation.

  • Establish clear standards for Value-Stream Mapping (VSM), tiered problem solving, Kaizen, 6S, visual management, and waste elimination.

  • Assess and continuously improve site Lean maturity, ensuring progression toward world-class benchmarks.

  • Position Malaysia as a model factory, setting the standard for Lean excellence across the global network.

Lean Program Deployment & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead deployment of Lean initiatives and support productivity programs across all Malaysia operations.

  • Facilitate and coach Kaizen events, Gemba walks, and structured problem-solving (eg A3, RCA).

  • Embed Lean practices into daily management systems, tiered accountability routines, and factory performance management.

  • Support teams in identifying bottlenecks, eliminating non-value-added activities, and improving flow efficiency.

  • Develop and standardise repeatable approaches that ensure consistency and sustainability of improvements.

Performance Analytics, Flow Improvement & Waste Reduction

  • Drive systematic identification and elimination of all forms of waste across Malaysia operations.

  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to improve layout, material flow, and process efficiency.

  • Apply data-driven methods to quantify improvement opportunities and track realised benefits.

  • Implement visual performance management systems that make performance, abnormalities, and waste visible.

  • Integrate Lean methods with digital tools, simulation, and OEE analytics to enhance decision-making and flow optimisation.

Capability Building & Cultural Transformation

  • Develop Lean capability across all levels: from operators to site leadership.

  • Coach teams to adopt a continuous improvement mindset, ownership, and disciplined problem-solving practices.

  • Build a culture of excellence where Lean principles are consistently reflected in daily behaviours and operational routines.

  • Ensure the manufacturing environment demonstrates high standards of visual management, workplace organisation, and adherence to standardised work.

  • Establish and develop internal Lean champions to sustain and advance Lean maturity over time.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and support functions to embed Lean philosophy into all processes.

  • Ensure Lean practices enhance quality, compliance, and operational robustness in a highly regulated environment.

  • Support site strategy and transformation initiatives through structured Lean methodologies.

  • Support the broader Global Manufacturing Network to align Lean initiatives with broader operational excellence priorities.

Let's Talk About You:

  • 7-10+ years of experience in Lean, continuous improvement, industrial engineering, or manufacturing.

  • Proven experience driving site-level Lean transformation and maturity advancement.

  • Deep expertise in Lean methodologies including: value-stream mapping, A3 problem solving, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen facilitation, 5S, standard work, and waste elimination.

  • Strong track record of delivering measurable productivity and waste reduction outcomes.

  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry is advantageous, supported by strong business acumen.

  • Certified Lean Expert (Lean Black Belt preferred) Six Sigma experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, influence, and engage stakeholders at all organisational levels.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.

Success Metrics:

Lean Program Deployment

  • Measurable improvement in Lean maturity scores year-on-year.

  • Malaysia site recognised as a model Lean factory within the global network.

  • The manufacturing environment consistently reflects high standards of visual management, workplace organization, and operational discipline.

Flow, Productivity & Waste Reduction

  • Measurable reductions in all forms of waste (e.g. motion, waiting, inventory, over-processing) across new and mature sites.

  • Improved flow efficiency, cycle time reduction, and capacity optimization.

  • Increased standardisation leading to reduced variability and improved operational performance.

Capability Building

  • Increased Lean capability across all levels of the organization.

  • Evidence of a continuous improvement mindset embedded in daily work practices and leadership routines.

  • High engagement in structured problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Consistent demonstration of Lean behaviors across teams and functions.

Continuous Improvement Impact

  • Documented annual savings (labour, overhead, space, inventory) resulting from Lean initiatives.

  • Increased engagement in CI programs and leadership-driven improvement initiatives.

Cultural Adoption

  • Strong evidence of Lean behaviours embedded into daily management, planning, and problem-solving routines.

  • Engagement and alignment with Lean principles across sites, measured through audits and feedback tools.

Why This Role Matters

This role is critical to positioning Malaysia as a world-class manufacturing site and benchmark for Lean excellence within Resmed. By building both a robust Lean system and a deeply embedded culture of continuous improvement, you will establish a facility that consistently delivers superior operational performance and sets the standard for the global Manufacturing network.
