Job Summary:
General Corporate
- To draft and prepare various agreements, and other documents relating to supply, distribution and licensing of various products and services of the Scholastic Group of companies within the Southeast Asia and East Asia region (the Territories) with a view of navigating local regulations of various countries.
- To review and provide opinion on various agreements including distribution, licensing, co-publishing, and other rights both in and out of the Scholastic Group as well as intercompany rights within the Territories.
- To provide all manner of legal advice on issues of Scholastic (Asia) Sdn Bhd as well as it's related corporations in China, Korea, Philippines and Singapore including but not limited to tax law, general corporate secretarial, licensing, trade related matters and data privacy.
- To conduct extensive regulatory compliance research into various aspect of operation including data privacy matters and employment law in foreign jurisdictions.
- To liaise with and instruct external counsel on occasion where necessary.
- To maintain the repository of agreements within the Scholastic Group within the Territory.
Intellectual Property and Brand Protection
- To conduct market surveys on markets within the Territories on a regular basis.
- To identify viable targets and conduct test purchases either directly or through coordination of other offices of the Scholastic Group within the Territories.
- To conduct takedowns, issue cease and desist letters and conduct raid on targets identified within the Territories either directly or through counsel.
- To assist with Trademark registration or maintenance applications conducted by the parent company, Scholastic Inc.
Data Privacy
- To act as Data Privacy Officer in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 of Malaysia.
- To support compliance of the Company with requirements of the PDPA 2010 together with ancillary legislation as amended from time to time including review on data privacy policies, breach response plan implementation and reporting in the event of a data breach, maintenance of the required registers and other duties required by the PDPA2010.
- To review and structure matters with customers on cross border transfer of customer data from users of customers of the Scholastic Group with a view of navigating compliance with data privacy laws from jurisdiction to jurisdiction within and outside the Territory.
