Job Overview
Our client in the data centre industry is currently expanding and is looking for a Mechanical Manager to join their team.
As the Mechanical Manager, you will report directly to the Senior Technical Manager and will be responsible for overseeing all mechanical operations at the JH1 campus.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the Mechanical department in data centre operations, including capacity planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance.
- Manage and supervise Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), outsourced partners, vendors, suppliers, and consultants based on operational and business needs.
- Strategically review resource availability to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with overall data centre infrastructure.
- Take critical decisions that deliver optimal outcomes for the organization.
- Drive team alignment toward company goals to ensure stability, profitability, and productivity.
- Improve data centre operations and procedures while ensuring compliance with audit requirements and documentation standards.
- Provide engineering solutions and guidance to the operations team for data hall specifications, HVAC systems, utilities, water supply, fire protection, diesel systems, and piping distribution.
- Establish, revise, and maintain operational procedures and documentation in line with data centre standards and company policies.
- Ensure all systems, designs, and components meet safety standards, operational requirements, and industry codes.
- Lead transition activities from construction to operations, including testing and commissioning in coordination with project teams.
- Generate defect lists and ensure timely rectification and closure of issues.
- Drive Continuous Improvement Programs (CIP) for mechanical systems to improve reliability, robustness, and performance.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance system efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Develop energy efficiency initiatives and contribute to carbon reduction and sustainability goals.
- Conduct training and development programs for operations and technical staff.
- Support Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities to maintain safe working conditions.
- Guide engineers and shift teams in incident investigation and ensure timely submission of reports to senior management.
- Drive reliability and efficiency improvements through BMS/DCIM data analysis and alarm trending.
- Lead drills, tabletop exercises, and emergency simulations for equipment failure scenarios.
- Plan and execute major maintenance activities such as annual shutdowns and overhauls.
- Provide technical support to project management teams during construction and system integration phases.
- Participate in Integrated System Testing (IST) and system handover processes.
- Support after-hours operations, including on-call duties and emergency response when required.
- Supervise energy management initiatives focused on renewable energy, power usage optimization, and cost savings.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience in data centre operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
- 13+ years of total relevant working experience preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in root cause analysis.
