Job Description
The merchandising executive supports the execution of the company's buying and merchandising activities across assigned product categories. The role is responsible for day-to-day supplier coordination, product and pricing administration, purchasing support, inventory monitoring, promotional execution, merchandising implementation, and performance analysis. Your mission is to ensure commercial plans are executed accurately and on time, while maintaining product availability, pricing accuracy, and inventory health.
Key responsibilities
Supplier coordination
- Manage day-to-day communication and follow-up with suppliers on products, pricing, orders, deliveries, and commercial activities.
- Obtain and maintain supplier quotations, product information, price lists, and relevant documentation.
- Track, follow up, and maintain accurate records of supplier trading terms, rebates, promotional support, and other commercial arrangements.
- Support the merchandising manager in supplier negotiations, business reviews, and new supplier or product evaluations.
Category & product management
- Monitor category, brand and SKU performance including sales, margin, sell-through, and inventory productivity.
- Prepare regular performance reports and highlight growth opportunities, underperforming products, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Maintain accurate assortment, product and category information.
- Support SKU reviews, assortment changes, delisting and product exit activities.
Pricing & promotion execution
- Maintain accurate product cost, selling price, margin, and promotional information.
- Conduct competitor price checks and market monitoring as required.
- Coordinate promotional submissions and setup, track promotional execution, and prepare post-promotion performance analysis.
- Maintain records of supplier price changes, promotional funding, rebates, and other commercial support.
Purchasing & inventory
- Prepare purchasing requirements based on sales, stock position, forecasts, and agreed inventory parameters.
- Prepare and process purchase orders in accordance with approved buying controls.
- Follow up purchase orders with suppliers and monitor fulfilment, shortages, lead times and deliveries.
- Monitor product availability, stock cover, ageing, slow-moving, and excess inventory.
Merchandising execution
- Support the implementation of category merchandising principles, planograms, and assortment standards.
- Coordinate product placement, displays, POSM, and supplier visibility components.
- Monitor merchandising and assortment compliance across stores and channels.
- Coordinate with operations, marketing, e-commerce, and suppliers to ensure commercial activities are executed accurately and on time.
Reporting & administration
- Prepare regular buying, sales, margin, inventory, supplier, and promotional reports.
- Maintain accurate product, supplier, pricing, and commercial information within company systems and shared records.
- Maintain proper documentation for supplier agreements, price changes, promotions, product listings, and other merchandising activities.
- Support continuous improvement of buying and merchandising processes, reporting and workflows.
Key requirements
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in business, marketing, supply chain or related field
- Fresh graduates or candidates with 1-2 years of experience in merchandising, buying, retail, FMCG or a related commercial role are encouraged to apply
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with good proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with confidence in dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Organised, resourceful and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
