SUMMARY

Armor Defense Inc. is seeking a Microsoft Purview Specialist to support a strategic data security and governance engagement with a large enterprise customer in Malaysia. This role is embedded on-site at the client and is responsible for the hands-on implementation, configuration, and ongoing management of Microsoft Purview to enable data classification, sensitivity labeling, data loss prevention (DLP), and information protection controls. The engagement is directly tied to the client's AI readiness initiatives, ensuring that data is properly classified, secured, and governed before being leveraged for AI and advanced analytics use cases.

This role is offered at two levels (Junior and Senior) depending on candidate experience. The successful candidate will work closely with Armor specialists onsite and will coordinate with Armor Defense's broader regional delivery team, including technical architects and specialist resources based across Southeast Asia.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Additional duties may be assigned as required)

  • Deploy, configure, and manage Microsoft Purview Information Protection, DLP policies, sensitivity labels, and data classification across the client's Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
  • Implement and maintain auto-labeling policies, trainable classifiers, and exact data match (EDM) classifiers tailored to the client's data landscape (e.g., customer records, financial data, employee data, operational and commercial data).
  • Configure and tune Purview Data Loss Prevention policies across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and endpoint devices.
  • Integrate Microsoft Purview with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps, and Microsoft Entra ID to create a unified data protection framework.
  • Conduct data discovery and scanning across on-premises and cloud data sources to build a comprehensive data map and classification taxonomy.
  • Support the design and rollout of a data classification schema aligned with the client's data governance framework and regulatory requirements (including Malaysia's PDPA and applicable industry-specific data standards).
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures for Purview administration.
  • Provide technical input to training materials and support the Project Manager in driving user adoption of classification and labeling practices.
  • Monitor Purview dashboards, activity explorer, and content explorer to identify trends, risks, and policy violations; produce regular reporting for stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Purview policies, label application, DLP incidents, and integration points.
  • Stay current with Microsoft Purview product updates and roadmap, proactively recommending improvements and new capabilities to the client.
  • Collaborate with Armor Defense's regional technical architects and delivery resources (based in Singapore and across Southeast Asia) on solution design, quality assurance, and knowledge sharing.

Senior Level (Additional)

  • Act as the technical lead for the Purview workstream, providing architectural guidance and design decisions for complex data protection scenarios.
  • Lead workshops with client IT, security, and data teams to gather requirements and translate them into Purview configurations.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members on Purview best practices and implementation patterns.
  • Serve as the primary technical escalation point for the engagement on all Purviewrelated matters, coordinating with regional architects as needed.
  • Advise on the broader Microsoft security and compliance stack (Defender, Sentinel, Entra) as it relates to data governance and AI readiness.
  • Contribute to engagement strategy and roadmap planning alongside the Project Manager and client leadership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Junior Level (2-4 Years Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 security and compliance tools.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring sensitivity labels, DLP policies, and data classification in Microsoft Purview or the legacy Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) stack.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for Microsoft 365 and Purview automation.
  • Understanding of data protection regulations, particularly Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
  • Ability to work independently on-site at the client location while coordinating effectively with remote regional team members across different time zones.
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Senior Level (5+ Years Experience)

All Junior-level qualifications, plus:

  • 5+ years of experience in Microsoft 365 security, compliance, and information protection, with at least 2-3 years focused specifically on Microsoft Purview.
  • Proven track record of designing and deploying enterprise-scale Purview solutions, ideally in regulated or complex industries (financial services, aviation, healthcare, government, or large-scale enterprise).
  • Deep expertise in DLP policy design, auto-labeling strategies, trainable classifiers, and endpoint DLP.
  • Experience integrating Purview with Microsoft Defender suite, Microsoft Sentinel, and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid environments (on-premises Active Directory, Azure AD/ Entra, hybrid Exchange).
  • Ability to lead technical workshops, produce architecture documentation, and present to senior stakeholders.
