Must-Have Experience
● 3–5 years hands-on experience in sanctions screening, name screening, and/or financial
crime investigations within a financial institution or payments/fintech.
● Strong working knowledge of major sanctions regimes (e.g., OFAC, UN, EU, UK, Canadian
sanctions) and their practical application in screening.
● Demonstrated experience reviewing and closing sanctions and PEP alerts using a risk-based approach that aligns to documented procedures.
● Proven ability to conduct OSINT and desktop research using both public and commercial data sources.
● Solid understanding of ownership/control analysis (e.g., 50% Rule or equivalent thresholds) and how they impact sanctions exposure.
Technical & Analytical Skills
● Strong investigative mindset with the ability to triage, prioritize, and synthesize complex
information quickly and concisely.
● Comfortable interpreting SOPs, escalation matrices, and regulatory guidance and translating them into consistent case decisions.
● Excellent written documentation skills; able to produce clear, defensible rationales suitable for internal audit and regulator review.
● Familiarity with screening tools (e.g., World-Check or equivalent), case management systems, and productivity tools (e.g., Google Workspace).
Minimum qualifications:
● Experience: 6-8 years of financial crime/AML experience in fintechs, MSBs, or payments
companies
● Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of global fintech regulations and industry
guidelines covering both sanctions (e.g., OFAC, UN, EU, UK, Canada) and non-sanctions name screening requirements (e.g., PEPs, adverse media, high-risk sectors and jurisdictions).
● Operational Expertise: Proven track record in managing transaction monitoring workflows, clearing sanctions hits, and conducting EDD
● Reporting: Experience drafting SAR narratives and managing regulatory reporting queues
● Stakeholder Management: Strong skills to work with product, operations, and audit teams
● Autonomy: Comfortable in high-autonomy, fast-paced environments, able to make operational decisions quickly
Preferred qualifications:
● Certifications: CAMS or CFE
● Language: Fluency in English is required; Mandarin proficiency is considered an asset
● Technical Aptitude: SQL/data skills for independent reporting and analysis
