A global technology services provider is seeking a Network Engineer in Kuala Lumpur, supporting a large-scale, high-performance network environment across Core and Optical infrastructure.
This is a rare opportunity to join a specialist operations team responsible for maintaining and supporting critical network services across backbone and data centre environments. The network underpins real-world internet infrastructure, combining core routing platforms with high-capacity optical transport to deliver resilient, high-performance connectivity at scale.
This role is well suited to a Network Engineer looking to deepen their exposure across core and optical networks within a structured, non-shift environment.
The Role
As part of the Network Operations team, you will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network performance across core and optical layers.
You will play a key role in ensuring network availability, resolving incidents, and supporting the delivery of reliable, high-capacity connectivity across the infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor and support network infrastructure across Core and Optical domains
• Troubleshoot faults across core routing and optical transport networks (DWDM)
• Act as the primary point of contact for network incidents and service issues
• Perform structured fault isolation across physical and logical network layers
• Manage incidents in line with SLAs, ensuring timely resolution and communication
• Escalate issues to engineering and vendor teams where required
• Support provisioning activities, including circuit turn-up, testing, and validation
• Maintain accurate documentation across incidents, changes, and configurations
• Contribute to continuous improvement across monitoring, tooling, and processes
Required Experience
• Experience within a Network Operations Centre or large-scale network environment
• Strong understanding of core networking concepts (e.g. BGP, MPLS, backbone networks)
• Exposure to optical networking technologies (e.g. DWDM, transport networks, fibre infrastructure)
• Hands-on experience with vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, or optical platforms
• Experience using monitoring and ticketing systems in an operations environment
• Ability to troubleshoot across multiple layers of the network stack
• Strong communication and documentation skills
Nice to Have
• Certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent
• Experience within telecom, ISP, or service provider environments
• Exposure to optical vendors (e.g. Ciena, Nokia, Huawei)
• Understanding of circuit provisioning, cross-connects, or backbone connectivity
