Role Overview
The NPI Engineer is responsible for managing the introduction of new PCB/PCBA products into manufacturing, ensuring smooth transition from design to production. This role focuses on process development, product setup, and cross-functional coordination to meet requirements in terms of quality, cost, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Introduction & Process Development:
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) from prototype stage to mass production
- Review Gerber files, BOM (Bill of Materials), and assembly drawings
- Define and optimize manufacturing processes (SMT, THT, reflow, wave soldering)
- Develop work instructions (WI), SOPs, and process flow documentation
- Coordinate prototype builds, pilot runs, and production readiness
DFM / DFA & Technical Analysis:
- Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) analysis
- Work with design teams to resolve issues related to component placement, solderability, and PCB layout
- Ensure product designs are optimized for efficient manufacturing
Troubleshooting:
- Analyze defects during trial builds (e.g., solder bridging, tombstoning, misalignment)
- Perform root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone Diagram
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve First Pass Yield (FPY)
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve technical issues
Maintenance:
- Ensure proper setup and readiness of SMT equipment, tooling, stencils, and fixtures
- Validate machine programs (e.g., pick-and-place) for production use
- Support continuous improvement to enhance process stability and machine performance
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain NPI documentation including ECN/ECO, process validation reports, and setup records
- Ensure proper version control and change management during product ramp-up
- Prepare reports on yield, defects, and process performance
- Document process parameters and technical specifications
Quality and Compliance:
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and quality standards
- Follow IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610) and internal procedures
- Support quality improvement and corrective action initiatives
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, work instructions, and manufacturing standards
Requirements
- Diploma / Degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or related field
- 3 – 6 years of experience in EMS / PCBA / SMT environment
- Fresh graduates with relevant internship experience may be considered
- Knowledge of PCB assembly processes (SMT, AOI, ICT, FCT)
- Familiarity with Gerber files, BOM, and assembly drawings
- Understanding of DFM / DFA and IPC standards
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Able to communicate in Mandarin fluently (preferred/required based on your hiring need)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
