Job Description Oracle/Sun Exadata & Server Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experiencedOracle/Sun Exadata and Server Engineerwith a strong background in hardware and OS/software troubleshooting. The role involves providing end-to-end support for Exadata appliances and Sun/Oracle servers, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and availability for critical business applications. The engineer will be responsible for system administration, incident resolution, and proactive maintenance in alignment with industry best practices and organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Hardware & Infrastructure Support
- Install, configure, and maintain Oracle/Sun Exadata appliances and Sun servers (e.g., X4, X7, T7 series).
- Perform hardware diagnostics, upgrades, and replacements (CPU, memory, disks, power supplies, controllers, etc.).
- Coordinate for parts replacement and warranty support.
- Operating System & Software Troubleshooting
- Administer Oracle Linux/Solaris environments running on Exadata and Sun servers.
- Troubleshoot OS-level issues (kernel panics, memory usage, CPU bottlenecks, patch failures).
- Apply and validate firmware, OS, and security patches to ensure compliance and stability where it requires.
- System Support & Operations
- Provide day-to-day monitoring and support of Exadata appliances, Sun servers, and related systems.
- Manage system incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Work closely with DBA and application teams to resolve performance bottlenecks at hardware/OS level.
- Ensure system backup, replication, and recovery procedures are in place and tested.
- Documentation & Process Management
- Create and maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and configuration baselines.
- Participate in change management and incident management processes.
- Provide technical input for capacity planning and system lifecycle management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of hands-on experiencein Oracle/Sun server administration and support.
- Proven experience withOracle Exadata systems(hardware and software stack).
- Strong knowledge ofOracle Linux, Solaris, and related OS environments.
- Experience with hardware troubleshooting, part replacement, and vendor coordination.
- Familiarity with storage subsystems, networking concepts, and clustering technologies.
- Exposure to ITIL-based practices (Incident, Problem, and Change Management).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Exadata certification.
- Experience in financial/banking environments with strict SLA-driven support.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools (Nagios, OEM, Dynatrace, etc.).
- Scripting skills (Shell, Perl, or Python) for automation.
