Payroll Operations Consultant (Contract) – Malaysia | APAC Coverage

A global conglomerate operating across multiple industries is currently undergoing a significant transformation, including the transition of HR and Finance activities into a global shared services model. As part of this transition, there is an anticipated need for operational continuity and stabilisation support within the payroll function.

To support this, an experienced Payroll Operations Consultant is required on a contract basis to provide hands-on payroll execution, issue resolution, and stakeholder coordination across Malaysia and selected APAC markets.

Scope of Work

The consultant will support day-to-day payroll operations during the transition period, including but not limited to:

  • End-to-end payroll processing across Malaysia and regional APAC entities
  • Execution and validation of payroll cycles within SAP R/3 (HR / Payroll modules)
  • Payroll data input, reconciliation, and variance analysis
  • Resolution of payroll discrepancies, exceptions, and employee queries
  • Liaison with HR, Finance, and external payroll vendors where applicable
  • Support for statutory compliance, filings, and local regulatory requirements
  • Assistance in transition activities, including knowledge transfer and process stabilisation
  • Identification of process gaps and implementation of interim controls

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in operational payroll delivery within complex, multi-country environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP R/3 Payroll (HR module)
  • Exposure to APAC payroll environments (Malaysia essential; additional markets advantageous)
  • Familiarity with statutory requirements and compliance across relevant jurisdictions
  • Ability to operate in transition / transformation environments, managing ambiguity and change
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across HR, Finance, and shared services teams
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and process integrity
