Role Description

We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to study the socioeconomic impact of Disorders of GutBrain Interaction (DGBI) in Malaysia. This fully funded, full-time role at Monash University Malaysia includes a monthly stipend, opportunities for international collaboration, and research dissemination. The candidate will work closely with renowned health economists from Monash Australia and Malaysia, gaining advanced training in health data analysis and economic modelling techniques. Responsibilities include conducting impactful research, analyzing data, publishing in high-impact journals, and actively engaging with faculty and departmental initiatives.

Project Overview

This PhD project will assess the socioeconomic burden of Disorders of GutBrain Interaction (DGBI), focusing on healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and productivity loss in conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Functional Dyspepsia (FD) and Functional Constipation (FC). The research will integrate clinical evidence with patient-reported outcomes to provide a comprehensive understanding of the economic and quality of life (QoL) impact of DGBI on individuals and the healthcare system in Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews, data collection, and analysis related to DGBI.
  • Assess healthcare utilization, productivity loss, and socioeconomic burden.
  • Design and implement both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, and researchers.
  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to high-impact journals.
  • Present research findings at international conferences.

Qualifications

  • A strong academic background in medicine, pharmacy, healthcare sciences, statistics, epidemiology, or related fields.
  • First Class Honours (H1) or equivalent (H1E) qualification recognized by Monash University Malaysia.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Added Advantage:

  • Fluency in Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Experience with real-world data, patient-reported outcomes, or healthcare research.
  • Strong skills in epidemiological and statistical methods.
  • Experience working with patients and healthcare professionals.
