We are seeking an experienced Compost Operations Manager to oversee large-scale compost production of approximately 45,000 tons of finished compost annually. The role will include planning the layout and overseeing the setup of the compost production facility from the ground up, as well as managing day-to-day operations including feedstock management, compost processing, quality control, machinery operations, and logistics.
The successful candidate should have proven experience managing high-volume composting facilities and ensuring consistent compost quality, efficient production, and cost-effective operations to support the company's soil fertility and regenerative agriculture programs.
Responsibilities and Duties
Compost Facility Planning & Setup
Design and plan the layout of the compost production facility to ensure efficient material flow and operational safety.
Oversee the development and setup of the composting facility from the ground up, including compost pads, windrow areas, feedstock storage, and processing infrastructure.
Coordinate with engineering teams and contractors during facility construction and equipment installation.
Compost Production Management
Manage the full compost production cycle including feedstock intake, windrow or pile formation, aeration, turning, curing, and screening.
Oversee production to achieve 45,000 tons of finished compost annually.
Develop and optimize composting processes to ensure consistent output and efficiency.
Monitor compost temperature, moisture, carbonnitrogen ratios, and decomposition stages.
Feedstock & Raw Material Management
Coordinate procurement and intake of compost feedstock including organic waste, plant residues, manure, and other biomass sources.
Maintain proper feedstock mixing ratios to ensure optimal composting conditions.
Manage stockpiles and raw material inventory.
Facility & Equipment Operations
Oversee operation and maintenance of compost machinery such as windrow turners, shredders, loaders, screeners, and transport equipment.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment to maximize operational uptime.
Plan compost yard layout and workflow to optimize material movement.
Quality Control & Soil Fertility Support
Implement quality control procedures to ensure compost meets agronomic standards.
Conduct testing for maturity, nutrient content, moisture, and organic matter.
Coordinate with plantation agronomy teams to align compost production with soil fertility programs.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
Lead and supervise compost facility supervisors, operators, and workers.
Develop operational schedules, workforce allocation, and productivity tracking.
Train staff on composting processes, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
Logistics & Distribution
Manage internal logistics and transportation of compost to plantation fields.
Plan delivery schedules based on plantation nutrient management programs.
Track production volumes and distribution records.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
Ensure safe operation of compost facility and machinery.
Implement environmental controls for odor, runoff, and waste handling.
Ensure compliance with local environmental and agricultural regulations.
