Principal Responsibilities

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing relative value and tactical portfolios in emerging market rates and FX, with a focus on CEEMEA and GCC markets. The role involves active risk taking across interest rate swaps, FRAs, FX and cross-currency swaps, together with the development of quantitative analytics, screening tools and models to support investment decisions, drawing on direct experience trading and pricing these markets at a major financial institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage relative value and directional portfolios across CEEMEA (e.g. ZAR, ILS, CZK, PLN) and GCC (e.g. SAR, AED) interest rates and FX, spanning IRS, FRA, FX and XCCY swaps.
  • Execute and manage positions in G10 markets (USD, EUR, JPY, GBP) as part of cross-market and EM-versus-G10 relative value strategies.
  • Develop and implement quantitative models for curve and forward relative value, mean reversion and momentum signals, carry/roll analysis, PCA-based hedging, and central bank meeting-date pricing.
  • Monitor local market microstructure and funding conditions, including benchmark fixings, cross-currency basis, and regional flow dynamics, ensuring full understanding of liquidity and positioning.
  • Provide market commentary, research, and investment insights to support team awareness and inform strategy.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience trading emerging market rates and FX, with a strong background in CEEMEA and/or GCC markets gained at a major bank or investment firm.
  • Direct experience in market making or proprietary risk taking in EM linear rates products (IRS, FRA, FX and XCCY swaps), including less liquid and locally driven markets.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or related quantitative fields.
  • Advanced programming and quantitative skills (e.g. Python, SQL/kdb+), with expertise in time-series analysis, backtesting, and building analytical and risk tools for rates and FX markets.
  • Deep understanding of EM interest rate derivatives, funding and fixing mechanics, and cross-currency basis markets.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience providing market commentary and research.
  • Proven ability to work independently, build a franchise or strategy from scratch, and manage risk with discipline in adynamic trading environment.
