POWER BI DEVELOPER (5+)

Position Summary

The Power BI Developer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise‑grade Power BI solutions across Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Service, and underlying data platforms such as Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Delta Lake, and BigQuery.
This role covers end‑to‑end BI delivery, including backend data preparation, semantic modelling, frontend report design, and AI‑enabled insights.

The position requires strong expertise in Power BI, DAX, SQL, and BI data modelling, with hands‑on experience in automated insights, Copilot in Power BI, and modern BI practices on Fabric workspaces. Backend data understanding and close collaboration with data engineering teams are critical to ensure trusted, scalable, and high‑performance analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Power BI Development & Frontend Design

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and apps for enterprise and executive audiences.
  • Create intuitive, high‑performance visualizations, drill‑downs, and interactive analytics aligned with business use cases.
  • Apply best practices for UX, performance optimization, and report usability.
  • Manage Power BI workspaces, apps, and deployment pipelines within Microsoft Fabric.

Semantic Modeling & DAX Development

  • Design and maintain semantic models using star schema and dimensional modeling principles.
  • Develop complex DAX measures for KPIs, trends, time intelligence, and advanced calculations.
  • Ensure consistency of business logic across reports and datasets.
  • Optimize models for performance, scalability, and reusability.

Backend Data Understanding & Enablement

  • Work closely with data engineers on Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Delta Lake, and BigQuery datasets.
  • Understand and validate backend SQL transformations feeding Power BI datasets.
  • Support dataset alignment and reconciliation across multiple data platforms.
  • Troubleshoot data issues spanning ingestion, transformation, and semantic layers.

Data Quality, Validation & Governance

  • Validate end‑to‑end data accuracy, completeness, and consistency in Power BI reports.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between source systems, curated datasets, and Power BI outputs.
  • Ensure dashboards comply with data governance, access control, and quality standards.
  • Support auditability through clear logic documentation and version control.

AI‑Enabled BI & Automated Insights

  • Leverage Copilot in Power BI and Fabric capabilities to enhance productivity and insight generation.
  • Design and implement automated insights, narrative summaries, and rule‑based intelligence in dashboards.
  • Explore AI‑driven features such as anomaly detection, trend explanations, and natural language querying.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to embed AI and automation into BI solutions.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with BI analysts, data engineers, cloud teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable BI and analytics solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support across BI and data layers.

Operational & Continuous Improvement Responsibilities

  • Support production deployments, refresh monitoring, and issue resolution in Power BI Service.
  • Prepare periodic data quality, usage, and adoption insights for governance and leadership forums.
  • Maintain clean, well‑documented Power BI assets and datasets.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, performance optimization, and BI modernization.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Power BI development and enterprise BI solutions.
  • Strong expertise in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and SQL.
  • Solid understanding of BI data modelling (star schema, dimensional modelling).
  • Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric workspaces and Power BI Service.
  • Good backend data understanding across Databricks, Synapse, Delta Lake, or BigQuery.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and enterprise dashboards.

Preferred / Plus Skills

  • Experience with AI‑enabled BI, automated insights, and Copilot in Power BI.
  • Exposure to GCP / BigQuery analytics.
  • Experience with enterprise governance, security, and deployment pipelines.
  • Background in analytics enablement for senior leadership and executive dashboards.
