Position: Responsible Factory Initiative (RFI) Program Manager

Reports to: Senior Director of Compliance and Responsible Factory Initiative (RFI)

Position Overview: Factory Engagement Manager for the Responsible Factory Initiative (RFI) to be based in Asia, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur or Penang states preferred), or in Taipei, Taiwan. This position will work closely with factories/suppliers that are members of the RFI to assess their facilities and operations against the RBA Code of Conduct and support their efforts to improve their alignment with the Code through direct support. A deep understanding of Codes of Conduct and their application in a factory is of paramount importance for this role, as well as the mindset of teacher, coach, and consultant as the vision is to partner with and support factories. Attention to detail and delivering exceptional customer service is vital.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Partner, coach, and guide factories that are members of the Responsible Factory Initiative
  2. Assess factory alignment with the RBA Code of Conduct and develop continuous improvement plans
  3. Work with factory management to drive Code compliance and specific supplier sustainability programs in a factory setting
  4. Develop related policies, processes, and procedures that are properly deployed and implemented
  5. Develop and execute communication plans internally and externally
  6. Monitor and improve the performance of factories active in the Factory Engagement Program
  7. Develop and conduct webinars or instructor led trainings to suppliers

Required & Demonstrated Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Technical skills:

  • Extensive RBA knowledge or expertise (RBA Code of Conduct, tools, programs, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international and local labor and ethics standards and due diligence frameworks
  • Knowledge of operational standards, social and environmental protocols, and other audit related subjects like effective worker interview skills, document reviews and site observations.
  • Ability to develop training material and conduct trainings in an engaging manner
  • Experience working in supply chain in the electronics, toy, automotive industries (and other industries such as garment, food and beverages, rubber gloves, etc.) is helpful.

Non-technical skills:

  • Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills with sensitivity to cultural differences. Strong presentation skills required.
  • Able to translate policy into clear guidelines and explore different ways of working with suppliers/RFI members to implement
  • Ability to demonstrate history of successful engagements and influencing skills with local, national, and international stakeholders.
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently (additional languages such as those utilized in Southeast Asia; e.g. Mandarin, Thai, Malay/Indonesian preferred).
  • Ability to manage work independently but also able to lead others to work as a team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to discern competing priorities and work on various projects.

Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience and competency in conducting social compliance audit for private companies
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to speak other languages, in addition to fluent English
  • Willingness to participate in evening calls to accommodate meetings in a US/Europe time zone
  • Willingness to travel locally or internationally when required

Other Pertinent Information:

  • Location Asia (Malaysia and Taiwan preferred)
  • Anticipated start date: This position is available immediately and interviews will take place until the position is filled
