Project Manager Job Description
The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering banking projects within scope, budget, and timeline while ensuring compliance with regulatory, risk, and operational standards. The PM leads cross-functional teams across Business, Operations, Technology, Risk, and external vendors to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with the bank's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Delivery
Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success metrics
Develop detailed project plans including work breakdown structures, schedules, resources, and budgets
Drive end-to-end project execution across business and technology streams
Ensure deliverables are completed according to banking standards, operational controls, and regulatory expectations
Delivery of software in agile and waterfall in accordance with application standards
Stakeholder Management
Manage stakeholders across Retail, Corporate, Wealth, Treasury, Operations, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and Finance. Within country and regional
Facilitate project meetings, steering committees, and working groups; ensure decisions and actions are tracked and completed
Communicate status, issues, and risks clearly to senior management and project sponsors
Governance & Compliance
Ensure adherence to bank governance frameworks, policies, and approval processes
Coordinate with Internal Audit, Operational Risk, Compliance, and Regulatory teams (e.g., for AML, Basel, KYC, IFRS9, local regulatory requirements)
Maintain proper documentation including risk assessments, approvals, contracts, and design/requirements artefacts
Risk, Issue & Change Management
Identify, assess, and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies
Lead change impact assessments across customer journeys, operations, technology, and regulatory compliance
Drive mitigation plans and escalate critical issues with clear recommendations
Manage change requests and ensure controlled scope management
Financial & Vendor Management
Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost trackers
Manage procurement activities, and vendor performance
Track financials including CAPEX/OPEX allocations, resource costs, and variances
Delivery Coordination Across Business & Technology
Oversee requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing (SIT/UAT), and migration/cutover readiness
Coordinate activities between business SMEs, developers, architects, testers, and external vendors/system integrators
Ensure operational readiness including SOP updates, training, communication, and post-implementation support
Reporting & Communication
Provide accurate project RAG status reporting, dashboards, and updates to PMO, program leadership, and executives
Prepare management packs, steering committee decks, and regulatory updates
Highlight bottlenecks, risks, customer impact, and required decisions
Communicate, report & engage with stakeholders as a key representative of group to ensure clarity of project progress, deviations, risks & issues are addressed accordingly
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of banking processes (deposits, loans/credit, payments, cards, treasury, risk)
Experience leading cross-functional teams across business and IT
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
Solid analytical and problem-solving ability
Strong documentation and planning skills
Proficiency with PM tools (JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, Power BI, Clarity)
Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum are an advantage

6 12 years of experience in project management within financial services or large enterprise
Proven track record managing medium to large-scale projects with multi-million budgets
