Job Description
Are you interested in international trade and cross-border innovation
Do you want to help international entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life with some of the largest brands in Asia, and play a role in helping Asian corporations to digitalise and decarbonise their operations
Or maybe you're interested in cross-border investment and want to play a role in enabling Malaysian corporations to expand overseas
If that's yes to all three, you may be who we are looking for to join our team.
You'll work alongside a diverse group of 180+ business development consultants with a deep specialism in Asia. Over 35 years in the business, we've supported over 2,000 clients across startups and scaleups, SMEs, corporates and government bodies – generating upwards of $20 billion in revenues and investment for our clients across 40+ international markets.
We're focused on the technologies and ideas that are helping to solve the world's social and environmental challenges. And we're growing our team in Kuala Lumpur. So, if you think you're up for the challenge, read on – and apply.
What you'll be doing
You'll be working with our international clients from both the private and public sector, with a concentration on high-growth sectors such as medtech, renewables, automotive, industrial robotics, consumer electronics, semiconductors and agritech; in addition to F&B, agriculture and consumer goods.
For your private sector clients, you'll be the on-the-ground extension of your clients business development departments, with a goal of developing their route to market, plus securing partners and customers in Malaysia. In your day-to-day, you'll be identifying, meeting, pitching to and gathering crucial feedback from your clients potential customers, distributors and partners in the market.
You might also work with our government agency clients from overseas. You'll be the on-the-ground representative of your client's export promotion team, supporting trade missions, delivering B2B meetings and organizing trade events.
You'll be working closely with your clients and providing them with key progress indicators in the form of meeting notes, reports, and sync calls.
When the time is right, you will arrange for your clients to visit Malaysia. You'll be their local expert – taking them to key customer meetings, interpreting and providing the incredibly important cultural context to business conversations.
Through all this, you'll deepen your consulting knowledge and gain first-hand experience in making international business happen.
What you'll be getting
- Competitive salary and vacation, plus flexible working arrangements
- International office environment and work culture
- Opportunities for growth and advancement within the company
- On-the-job experience across multiple industries, often working with cutting-edge western technologies
- A chance to sharpen your sales, consultancy and business development skills by learning from best-in-class consultants and business builders
- An opportunity to make a difference by enabling green transformation and digital transition through international collaboration
What you'll need
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English and Malay. Proficiency in Mandarin is an additional plus
- Minimum of four years experience working in sales, business development, economic development, export promotion or consulting
- Ideally, relevant experience in our B2B fields (industrial, medtech, automotive, semiconductor, energy, software, engineering, life sciences, medtech, F&B, agriculture, etc.)
- Degree in business/marketing/law/engineering/science, or in a related field
- A firm grasp of Malaysian business culture and the ability to proactively guide international clients through local nuances
- The ability to quickly grasp new concepts and communicate that knowledge to stakeholders
- A keen interest in international trade and overseas business development
