Job Description
Job Summary
The Project Director provides strategic and operational leadership in the delivery of large-scale civil and infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Head of Project Management, the role oversees the full project lifecycle, from planning and design coordination through construction and completion. The position is responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and in compliance with all applicable quality and regulatory requirements. The role works closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, regulatory authorities and government agencies to achieve successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of major civil and infrastructure projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
- Develop and oversee project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, budgets and resource plans in collaboration with engineering and planning teams.
- Manage day-to-day site operations and construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, deliverables and key milestones, and provide regular progress reports to the Head of Department.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, local authorities and other stakeholders to obtain approvals, resolve site-related matters and maintain project progress.
- Support procurement and contract management activities, including reviewing tender documents, assessing submissions and evaluating contractor performance.
- Identify project risks, constraints and dependencies, and implement appropriate mitigation measures to minimise disruption.
- Conduct technical reviews of engineering designs, construction drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Lead, supervise and develop engineers, site supervisors and construction teams to ensure effective performance and accountability.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies, utility providers, government stakeholders and other relevant parties.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- A master's degree or relevant professional certification, such as Professional Engineer (PEng) or Project Management Professional (PMP), would be an advantage.
- Minimum of 12 years relevant experience in civil engineering, infrastructure development or construction project delivery.
- At least five years experience in a senior leadership or project management capacity.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale civil or infrastructure projects throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of construction management, government approval processes and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated capabilities in project budgeting, financial oversight, risk management and resource planning.
- Proficiency in construction management software, Microsoft Project or equivalent project-tracking tools.
- Strong leadership, decision-making and cross-functional project coordination skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
