Executes relevant EHS activities in line with clear policies and procedures at the site/EHS discipline; in order to minimise EHS risks. Entry level professional. May be working towards a professional EHS qualification e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent. Participates in small local projects.
Legal and Other Requirement
- Identify applicable EHS legislation and advise management on compliance.
- Exercising vital role as Site Safety Supervisor (SHO) to ensure Project Installation/ Construction meeting legal and JM requirement.
- Advise and assist Plant EHS Manager in compliance with JM Group EHS requirements including Policies, guidance, standards and EHS reporting requirements, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 standard requirements.
- Ensure Life Saving Policies are understood, training delivered, and compliance monitored.
- Ensure that Group and Sector EHS initiatives are adequately deployed across the site
- Ensure the EHS arrangements in place to meet legal and JM requirements are internally audited, actions agreed and completion tacked.
- Implement occupational health exposure monitoring and advise on control strategies to achieve agreed exposure limits. (Legal and Group)
- Liaise with external parties on compliance with legal permits and other requirements.
- Ensure all emergency evacuation plans and procedures are robust, executed and continuously improved.
Leadership
- Show leadership in all areas of EHS by influencing, supporting and challenging Line Management in the prioritisation and deployment of EHS requirements.
- Communicate EHS requirements with passion and conviction.
- Is visible and approachable within the workplace, and coach others on how to demonstrate required EHS behaviors. Challenge undesirable behaviours, and consistently sends a message that safety is a core value.
- Assist EHS Manager in defining the required safety culture for the site.
- Lead by example: both manage and complete tasks while actively engaging with all levels of the organization
- Promote 2-way dialog amongst the workforce, while providing feedback on all relevant situations
- Self-directed on day-to-day tasks, with key-stakeholder buy-in on larger, more complicated initiatives and programs.
- Build organisational capability through identifying gaps in the EHS organisation, ensuring specialist EHS skills are identified and in place, and coaching and mentoring current/future EHS professionals.
- Develop KPIs and track site performance to drive improved EHS performance improvement.
EHS Processes and Tools
- Establish standardized EHS systems and processes that are consistent with Group, Sector & Region direction and initiatives.
- Maintain EHS Management systems (certified where required)
- Assist in Accident investigations, ensuring appropriate root cause analysis is carried out and improvement actions recorded.
- Promote the use of leading indicators such as Learning Events and Safety Observation Conversations. Track participation in Leading activities and report performance to management.
- Ensure risk assessment processes are in place for all activities and EHS is fully considered in management of change processes on site.
- Ensure Environmental aspect and impact analysis been implemented with significant impacts identified and control measures agreed.
Technical Requirement
- Supporting SHO on the measures to be taken in the interests of the Legal and JM EHS requirement to Management & all employees;
- Perform site inspection at all plant area especially related to Project Installation/ Construction to determine whether any machinery, plant, equipment, substance, appliances or process or any description of manual labour used in the place of work, is of such nature liable to cause bodily injury to any person working in the place of work and environmental issues are in compliance with JM EHS & legal requirement.
- Ensure all actions from site inspection are reviewed and followed through till closure.
- Participate in investigation related to any accident, near-miss accident, dangerous occurrence, occupational poisoning or occupational disease and environmental related incident which has happened in the place of work;
- Assist the SHO & EHS Manager on the implementation of the safety and health committee, if any, pursuant to legal requirement i.e. Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Committee) Regulations 1996 in organizing and implementing occupational safety and health programme.
- Participate in safety and health committee in any inspection of the place of work for the purposes of checking the effectiveness and efficacy of any measures taken in compliance with JM and legal requirement.
- Supporting in ensuring availability of statistics data on any accident, dangerous occurrence, occupational poisoning, occupational disease and environmental related incident which have occurred at the plant.
- Assist other Department Manager on any matters pertaining to safety and health of the place of work.
- Maintain & Execute EHS-MS for ISO14001 and ISO45001 certification including audit compliances.
- Analyze leading and lagging performance ensuring leading activities are focused on areas of concern.
- Able to track and trend incidents and issues at the site to ensure clear, data driven focus for value added activities.
- Provide support & technical guidance to the Plant in the handling, storage and shipping hazardous waste.
- Manage EHS compliance i.e. new chemical assessment, chemical handling for materials used, received and/or processed at the facility.
- Ensure inspection and preventative maintenance programs are in place for all critical Safety equipment.
- Ensure all learning & development requirements are being met for measurable EHS competency. Identify EHS-related competence gaps and source external, or deliver internal, training where required.
- Establish and manage all Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Occupational Health (OH) programs that are applicable to the site.

- To carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
- Duties and responsibilities will be extended to other departments as and when required.
