QC Inspector, Blasting & Painting

Location: Pasir Gudang, Johor

Job Summary

The QC Inspector, Blasting & Painting is responsible for leading and managing QA/QC activities for blasting, painting and coating works throughout the EPC/EPCIC project lifecycle.

The role ensures that surface preparation and coating applications comply with client specifications, project requirements and international standards, including ISO 12944 and NORSOK M-501. The position also serves as a technical focal point for coating inspection, vendor evaluation, technical deviations, coating failure investigations and quality compliance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement coating QA/QC plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and procedures for blasting, painting and specialised coating systems.
  • Review vendor coating procedures, technical documents and data sheets during procurement and technical bid evaluation.
  • Review client coating requirements and identify technical gaps or deviations during bidding and project execution.
  • Assess and provide technical justification for coating specification deviations that may impact project cost or schedule.
  • Lead investigations into coating non-conformance and failure cases, including Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCFA).
  • Supervise and coordinate coating inspection teams to ensure inspection activities comply with project specifications and requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, Engineering, Procurement and Project teams on coating-related technical and quality matters.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical focal point for coating-related quality issues at fabrication yards and vendor facilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Diploma or Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Possess relevant coating inspection certification such as IMM Certified Coating Inspector Level 2 (CIL2), NACE or FROSIO.
  • Level 3 certification in coating/corrosion technology (e.g. NACE or FROSIO) is preferred.
  • Lead Auditor QMS ISO 9001 certification is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 10–15 years of QA/QC experience in blasting and painting within an Oil & Gas EPCIC environment.
  • Hands-on experience in vendor evaluation, Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE), deviation assessment, RCFA and coating failure investigation.
  • Experience as a Technical Authority / Subject Matter Expert (SME) in specialised coating technologies such as FBE, 3LPP, TSA and PFP.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, coating inspection and applicable international standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage inspection teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to implement corrective actions effectively.
