Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and development of new products from concept generation through prototype, testing, validation, and production launch.
- Create 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and product renderings using Creo or SolidWorks.
- Translate customer and product requirements into practical, innovative, and manufacturable design solutions.
- Perform tolerance analysis, GD&T application, and engineering evaluations to ensure product quality and functionality.
- Apply DFM, DFA, and material selection principles to optimize product performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality and Project Management throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Support prototype builds, design verification, pilot runs, and new product introductions (NPI).
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve technical issues and support tooling and production readiness.
- Conduct root cause analysis, design improvements, and corrective actions to enhance product reliability and performance.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, ECOs, and test reports.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and project timelines.
- Take ownership of project deliverables and drive projects to successful completion.
- Adhere to plant safety, food safety, sanitation standards and following all GMP guidelines.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design or a related discipline.
- Three to five years of relevant experience in product development, mechanical design or R&D engineering.
- Strong industrial design sketching and product-rendering capabilities.
- Proficient in Creo or SolidWorks for 3D modelling and engineering drawings.
- Good knowledge of tolerance analysis, tolerance stack-up and GD&T.
- Familiarity with common manufacturing processes such as plastic injection moulding, sheet-metal fabrication, machining and product assembly.
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Able to translate design requirements into practical and manufacturable solutions.
- Proactive, resourceful and capable of working independently.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for project deliverables.
- Good communication, teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Committed to complying with all plant safety regulations, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consumer electronics, medical devices, industrial products or precision-engineered products.
- Knowledge of DFM, DFA, material selection and manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with suppliers and supporting prototype or pilot production builds.
- Familiarity with FEA, risk assessment, root-cause analysis or design verification methods.
- A portfolio demonstrating industrial design sketches, renderings and completed product-development projects would be advantageous.
