Purpose of the job:
To ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the site's refrigeration and chiller systems, including 10 refrigeration units and 3 centrifugal chillers.
This role includes performance monitoring, execution of planned maintenance, critical spares management, safety compliance, water quality coordination, and optimization of energy usage.
Main Accountabilities:
- Follow all plant safety requirements and participate in activities to continuously improve safety performance. Participate in department and site safety initiatives including attending and leading safety meetings as assigned.
- Comply to work procedures (SOPs), Synthomer Policies, Code of Conduct, Employee handbook, Core Values, SHEMS, SHE principles/10 golden rules, safety induction, QMS procedures and regulatory requirements to meet departmental objectives and ensure work activities are performed safely.
- Refrigeration & Chiller System Management
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on refrigeration units and chillers (inclusive of system & distribution pumps, cooling towers, and water treatment systems)
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, or control-related issues in a timely manner, along with generation of RCA for associated abnormalities.
- Prepare and continuously improve Work Instructions for shutdown, servicing, and restarting activities.
- Monitor system performance and maintain Coefficient of Performance (COP) to designed level
- Management and execution for Quarterly (3M Routine inspection) and Annual (12M Minor service) preventive maintenance plans (inclusive of relevant function tests or calibration within system)
- To propose and manage any CAPEX Projects/MoC related to RU/Chiller system for sustenance and improvement
- Adhere compliance & Safety, Water Quality Oversight, Spare Parts & Inventory Control, Documentation & Reporting
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or equivalent. Additional certification in industrial refrigeration, chiller maintenance, or energy management is an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years hands on experience in maintaining industrial refrigerant package (especially JCI/York/Dunham bush) refrigeration and chiller systems (e.g., screw chillers, centrifugal chillers).
- Familiarity with water treatment programs and fire protection systems is a bonus.
- AESP for supporting inspection in confined space.
- Desirable Skill / Knowledge in industrial cooling and refrigeration system troubleshooting, Energy performance tracking (e.g., COP monitoring), General knowledge on M&P as well as EICA, Spare part inventory management
- Effective communication and coordination with OEMs/vendors
- Understanding of statutory requirements (DOSH, Energy Commission, etc.)
