What You'll Be Doing
Evyap is seeking an experienced Regional General Counsel to lead its legal and compliance function for its Life Chemistry business unit. Based in Selangor, this role will provide strategic legal support to the company's regional operations, with a primary focus on Malaysia and Indonesia, while supporting broader regional Life Chemistry markets. Limited support may also be required for U.S.-related matters.
The Regional General Counsel will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and will work closely with commercial, sales, and operational teams to support business growth while ensuring effective legal risk management and regulatory compliance. The role will lead a small regional legal team and coordinate with external counsel across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Legal Advisory
- Provide practical and strategic legal advice to regional leadership on commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters.
- Support business expansion initiatives, investments, and strategic partnerships across Asia.
- Advise management on legal risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
Priority Market Support Malaysia & Indonesia
- Provide dedicated legal support to the company's key markets in Malaysia and Indonesia, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with local management to address operational, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting these markets.
Commercial & Sales Support
- Act as a key legal partner to commercial and sales teams in structuring and negotiating commercial arrangements.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including:
- Distribution and sales agreements
- Supply and procurement contracts
- Strategic partnerships and joint ventures
- Logistics and service agreements
- Ensure commercial arrangements are legally sound while enabling efficient business operations.
Corporate Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements across regional entities.
- Support implementation of company policies and internal controls.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely adaptation of business practices.
Risk Management & Dispute Resolution
- Identify and manage legal risks across the region.
- Oversee litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters with external counsel.
- Support internal investigations and legal risk assessments when required.
Compliance & Ethics
- Support the implementation and monitoring of compliance programs, including anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and corporate ethics policies.
- Promote a strong culture of compliance across the organization.
Legal Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a regional legal team of three professionals.
- Manage external law firms and legal advisors across Asia.
- Optimize legal processes and manage legal budgets efficiently.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Finance, IT, HR, Procurement, Operations, and Commercial teams to support business activities.
- Provide legal support for financing arrangements, corporate structuring, and regulatory approvals where required.
Who We're Looking For
Education
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.
- Admission to practice law in a recognized jurisdiction.
Experience
- Minimum 1015 years of legal experience, ideally including regional responsibilities in Southeast Asia.
- Strong experience advising multinational businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial businesses is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise
Strong experience in:
- Commercial contract negotiation
- Corporate governance and regulatory compliance
- Cross-border legal matters
- Dispute resolution and litigation management
